Club Newsletter - March 17, 2023

 

Here is my first and possibly last newsletter if it does not meet with Moe's approval.

 

Guests: We welcomed a delegation of four members from the Kyle-Buda Kiwanis Club who were doing an Inter-Club visit. They were President Cynthia Bentley, Frederick Case and Sheila and Gwen, two ladies whose last names I do not have. Holly Dame, Kristi Dame's daughter, visited due to Spring break and no school.

 

Unfortunate news: Glen Rydl is in the hospital due to a fall. We all wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

 

PROGRAM: MARCH 16: Del Brown and Penny Slavik invited Pastor Adam from First United Church to talk about his and his wife's journey to New Zealand. He gave a wonderful, pictorial presentation called "New Zealand: Journey to Middle-earth." He gave some background facts about New Zealand including that it is made up of two islands; originally had no mammals until someone introduced the possum; and has deserts, tropical forests, plains and mountains. New Zealand has been used for film sets of numerous movies, most notably The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbitt Trilogy. The film producers built a town called Hobbiton with Hobbit Holes (Hobbit homes) built into the hills on a sheep farm. The homes were torn down after the first film was made but when the town was rebuilt for the second film in the series, the owner of the sheep farm asked that it remain after filming. It is now a major tourist attraction. Pastor Adam described well and showed the beauty, wonder and attractions of New Zealand.

 

PROGRAM: MARCH 23: LuAnne has invited a representative from Truchoice Pregnancy Resource Center to explain about the service they provide for women and men facing an unplanned pregnancy. They provide information to individuals so that they can make well-informed decisions about their future life and that of the unborn child. It is a subject not often talked about in conversations but is more abundant in everyday life than most people realize.

 

PROGRAM: MARCH 30: Jennifer will present a program on a short history of quilts and their connection to Kiwanis. Actual quilts will be shown.

 

Doug Balkman collected donations for painted rocks adoptions for an elementary school fundraiser.

 

April 29th: 2nd Annual Kiwanis Clay Shoot. This is our major fundraiser so let Rhonda know if you can volunteer to help out. The event is held in Kingsbury at the Moyesway shooting facility starting at 8:30 a.m. Rhonda said for those who are participating, if they need to order t-shirts, she needs the orders immediately.

 

Continuing Reminders from Moe: Reminders #1 and #2: Don't forget to give Jennifer your comments and articles about your Kiwanis memories of events to include in the update of our history booklet. And "like" and "share" Kelli's Facebook posts about Kiwanis to encourage citizens to become a member of our club for service to the San Marcos community.

 

Don't forget March 20th is the first day of Spring and April 1st is around the corner if you are looking forward to pranking or being pranked.

 

When you lose your children in the house, turn off the WIFI. They'll come out immediately. Your neighbors may even drop by as well.

 

Be decisive. Right or wrong, make a decision. The road of life is paved with flat squirrels who couldn't make a decision.

 

The biggest lie I tell myself is "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it."
