     Each year on specified holidays, the San Marcos Kiwanis Club operates a program of providing local businesses a US Flag to display recognition of the history of the US Flag and the appropriate methods of flying the flag to honor special holidays where display of that flag has been designated as appropriate.  The designated holidays are: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Patriot's Day, Election day, Veterans's Day, Martin Lutheran King Day, President's Day.  In the event of rainout days, the flags will be put up on Labor Day, Columbus Day, Pearl Harbor Day as alternative dates.
     The Kiwanis Club of San Marcos has purchased flags and staffs and offers them to the business commuinity on an accual fee basis.  We put the flags on the above stated dates for an annual fee of $30.00.  The funds collected in this effort are used to fund the San Marcos Public Library Children's Summer Reading Program.
     This program is conducted by the San Marcos Club's Committee for Finance and Fundraising.  Members of the club are colunteers for participation in the Flag Days Program and are appointed annually.
     These members ather at 7:00am on the days designated and are each assigned a route of 6-16 locations to put the flags in place and re-assembled at 4:pm to collect them and return them to storage currently at Ted Breihan's Electric Shop.
     An annual drive if conducted to solicit new participants prior to Memorial Day when each contract with paricipating businesses begins.  Those currently involved in putting out flags are: Chairman: Randy Cook....Glen Rydl,Francis Mendez, Randy Cook, Gary Nelson, Pam Cook, David Chandler, Del Brown, Randal Grizzle, Frederick Case, John Polk, Lon Shell, Rob Martin, Gsary Strunk, James Collier, Charles Johnson, Ted Breihan, and Doug Balkman.

ROUTE #1.....(Francis Mendez, Glen Rydl)(East Side of the Square:  The Stinky Dawg, (1 full wood pole)....Full Circle (1 3/4 wood pole)...Luanne Caraway, McCreary, Veselka, Bragg & Allen, Insurance Agency of San Marcos, H.C. Kyle, San Marcos (Rudy's Barbershop, Cafe on the Square...all these 7 get metal poles.  Cafe on the Square gets 2 metal poles).
ROUTE 2 (Randy Cook & Gary Nelson)  East Side Past hopkins....Paper Bear (1 full metal pole at street and 1 1/2 wood pole on building)  Wally's Party Factory (wood),
