San Marcos Kiwanis Club Newsletter, July 3, 2025
We had guest Rita Greenwell join us today. As part of a class at Texas State Univ. she needed to attend a service club meeting. We are happy she chose our club and maybe she will decide to join.

REPORTS:

Birthdays for July are Veronica, Jesse, Charles, and Cheryl with Gary Nelson celebrating an anniversary.

Flags, of course, are being put up for July 4th. Glen had mentioned being sure the newly assembled flag poles would be sturdy enough to withstand weather. Rick glued the flag pole sections together to take care of that. After the flags are raised, installers meet at Cafe on the Square at 8:00 am.

Rick handed out a voting ballot for new officers and board members.

The "Saltgrass Dine and Donate" dinner on June 30th was well attended with 20 members and family eating heartily.

Remember the San Marcos Library summer program craft days are continuing. Refer to "Events" below for more information.

Rick handed out the Committee list for the club. As usual, please look it over to see what you would like to do for the upcoming year.

The Board voted to donate $500 to Teacher Reuse.

Peggy Brunner, a former Kiwanian, passed away on June 15th. One of our members commented on what a beautiful singing voice she had. I read her obituary and discovered her career was in teaching singing (voice) at Huston Tillotson Univ. and Texas State Univ. She was 89 years old.

PROGRAM:
Member Dr. Charles Johnson gave a presentation on the Medical Explorers, a program he has been in charge of at Texas State Univ. for a very long time. This highly worthwhile program prepares students in Career Awareness by providing leadership and management skills in a hands on approach and involvement in various medical fields. The training program is respected by medical professionals, a few of which are CPR First-Aid Training, Community Emergency Response Teams, and Medical Missions. The training is quite extensive with six levels involved. There is too much to include in the newsletter as their involvement covers such a multitude of areas. Our club has had them come to events such as the Pumpkin Dash. Charles said expectations of students are high with a top one being that of maturity. The students' behavior and character must be at a professional level to continue in the program.

Be sure to check the Calendar posted on the San Marcos Kiwanis Club website to stay up-to-date on what is happening.

Humor and Musings:

"My ducks are absolutely not in a row. I don't even know where some of them are. And I'm pretty sure one of them is a pigeon." Unknown

Another version:
"I don't have any ducks in a row.
I do have squirrels
And they are everywhere"

Yet another version:
“If I waited until I had all of my ducks in a row, I’d never get across the street. Sometimes you just have to gather up what you’ve got and make a run for it.”
