Just a few of the pictures taken at this year's Pancake Day and Silent Auction. It was the best one ever! We served 229 at noon, and 224 in the evening. That comes to 453. WOW!!! Thanks everybody that helped.

All in all, it was not only one of the greatest Pancake Day we have had in a long while, but a special thanks goes out to those of our club responsible for the great marketing efforts in the newspaper, with our new banner in front of the Activity Center, and the way everything 'clicked' including those responsible for displaying all of the Silent Auction items for both settings. We have a great club, ready to jump in to help what our Kiwanis Club is really all about.....It's all about 'Kids'. The money raised from this event will provide many scholarships for our kids. Thanks one and all who were there to put on this event, and thank you to our community for coming and enjoying some of the best pancakes (plain and blueberry), and as usual the wonderful sausage and all the trimmings.

Francis Mendez will be bringing Dr. Steven Rayburn, Assistant Professor of Marketing at the McCoy College of Business Administration, Texas State university. Prior to coming to TSDU, he received his doctorate in marketing at Oklahoma State University. He received both his BS in Marketing and his MBA from University of Louisville. Prior to coming the university he enjoyed a successful career managing in service, retail, and sales corporations. Dr. Rayburn's research has bee published in Journal of Business Research, Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Journal of Research for Consumers, and International Review of Retail, Distribution, and Consumer Research.
Dr. Rayburn is a member of the American Marketing Association and Society for Marketing Advances. He has been a revgiewer for several marketing journals as well as for several national marketing conferences.

February 23, 1991 - - In Desert Storm, the Allied ground offensive began after a devastating month long air campaign targeting Iraqi troops in both Iraq and Kuwait.
February 24, 1867 - - The House of Representatives voted to impeach President Andrew Johnson. The vote followed bitter opposition by the Radical Republicans in Congress toward Johnson's reconstruction policies in the South. However, the effort to remove him failed in the Senate by just one vote.
February 25, 1910 - - Millicent Fenwick was born in New York City. She championed liberal causes, serving as a member of the U.N. General Assembly and as a U.S. Congresswoman.
February 26, 1848 - - The Communist Manifesto pamphlet was published by two young socialists, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It advocated the abolition of all private property and a system in which workers own all means of production, land, factories and machinery.
February 27, 1950 - - The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, limiting the president to two terms or a maximum of ten years in office.
February 28, 1844 - - During a demonstration of naval fire power, one of the guns aboard the USS Princeton exploded, killing several top U.S. government officials on the steamer ship, and narrowly missed killing President John Tyler.
March 1, 1974 - - Seven former high-ranking officials of the Nixon White House were indicted for conspiring to obstruct the investigation into the Watergate break-in. Among those indicted; former chief of staff H.R. Haldeman, former top aide John Ehrlichman, and former attorney general John Mitchell.

A man was driving down a country lane when his car ground to a halt. As he lifted the hood to study the engine, a brown and white cow from an adjoining field lumbered over to the car and stuck her head under the hood next to the man's.
After a moment or two, the cow turned to the man and said: "Looks like a dodgy carburetor to me." Then she walked back into the field and resumed her grazing.
Amazed, the man walked up to the farmhouse and asked the farmer: "Is that your cow out there in the field?" "The brown and white one? Yes, that's old Buttercup."
"Well," continued the man, "my car was broken down, and she just came up to me and said: 'Looks like a dodgy carburetor to me.'
The farmer shook his head and said: "Don't mind old Buttercup. She doesn't know a thing about cars."
"To Put the Screws To"

Where Does the Word "Quarantine" Come From?
"From the French quarante (=40). Adding the suffix -aine to French numbers gives a degree of roughness to the figure (like -ish in English), so quarantaine means about forty. Originally when a ship arriving in port was suspected of being infected with a malignant, contagious disease, its cargo and crew were obliged to forego all contact with the shore for a period of around forty days. This term came to be known as period of quarantine"

America the Beautiful - "Grotto of the Redemption"
The Shrine of the Grotto of the Redemption is a religious shrine located in West Bend, Iowa, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux City. A conglomeration of nine grottos depicting scenes in the life of Jesus, the Grotto contains a large collection of minerals and petrification and is believed to be the largest grotto in the world.
It is also "considered to be the world's most complete man-made collection of minerals, fossils, shells, all in one place. The total value of all the rocks and minerals which make up the Grotto is over $4,368,000.
The shrine includes a museum with precious and semiprecious stones from throughout the world. As of August 1, 2015, the grotto has been raised to the status of diocesan shrine. This is the first Catholic religious shrine designated in the diocese.
