Mayor Jane Hughson visits our Kiwanis Club last Thursday
What a real joy it was to have our newly elected Mayor, Jane Hughson come to our noon meeting last week and spoke to us about what is presently going on in our city and what we can expect to see developing in the future. Our mayor loves her city and wants to do her very best to see that our city develops in such a way to make it not only pleasant and productive for those residents who live in our city, but also to make our city as appealing and welcoming to visitors that come through our city with thoughts of perhaps making San Marcos a city that they would like to settle down in.
Mayor Hughson is a long time resident of our city and knows not only what has happened in the past to make San Marcos what it is today, but also pledges to put San Marcos and it's current residents primary in her term as mayor.
After her address to our club about where we are today and where we should be going in the future, our club asked her many questions, to which she was very eager to address. Thank you Mayor Hughson and thank you Moe Johnson for introducing her to our club. It is estimated that we had between 14 - 16 guests present, as well as 19 regular members.
Our program for this coming week.
Our program for this coming Thursday will be brought by Kelli Whigham, and the subject will deal primarily with the Lindsey Hill project here in San Marcos. This has been the subject of our city for some time. Let's have a good representation from our club to hear and discuss the latest development for this particular neighborhood.

Board of Directors Meeting...
The Board of Directors met on March 28, 2019 in the CTMC Professional Building at 5:00pm. Those present were President Kelli Whigham, Past President - non voting, Doug Balkman, Rhonda White, Pres. Elect, Glen Rydl, Secretary, Randy Cook, Treasurer, Pam Cook, Member, Lon Shell, Member, Andrew Gary, member, Charles Walts, member, and Del Brown, Bulletin Editor, non voting member.
After approving the Minutes from last month, and approving the Financial status, there was discussion about community support contributions to two organizations who had made applications. These contributions were accepted. Third item: approving application for membership of Tim Tippett.
Lon Shell then brought up rules, reservation requests, suggestions for what needs to be considered for our youth camp.
One fact that needs to be known, that Randy Cook said that we probably netted about $8200 at the Pancake day.
The meeting adjourned at 6:30pm. Next meeting will be on April 25, 2019.

March 29, 1979 - - In the U.S. Congress, the House Select Committee on Assassinations released its final report regarding the killings of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy.
March 30, 1981 - - Newly elected President Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest while walking toward his limousine in Washington, D.C., following a speech inside a hogtel. The president was then rushed into surgery to remove a 22-caliber bullet from his left lung. "I should have ducked," Reagan joked. Three others were also hit including Reagan's Press Secretary, James Brady, who was shot in the forehead but survived. The president soon recovered from the surgery and returned to his duties.
March 31, 1968 - - President Lyndon Johnson made a surprixe announcement that he would not seek re-election as a result of the Vietnam conflict.
April 1, 1865 - - During the American Civil War, Confederate troops of General George Pickett were defeated ande cfut off at Five Forks, Virginia. This sealed the fate of Confederate General Robert E. Lee's armies at Petersburg and Richmond and hastened the end of the war.
April 2, 1863 - - A bread riot occurred in the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia, as angry people demanded bread from a bakery wagon then wrecked nearby shops. The mob dispersed only after Confederate President Jefferson Davis made a personal plea and threatened to use force.
April 3, 1948 - - President Harry W. Truman signed the European Recovery Program, better known as the Marshall Plan, intended to stop the spread of Communism and restore the economies of European countries devastated by World War II. Over four years, the program distributed $12 billion to the nations of Western Europe. The program was first proposed by Secretary of State George C. Marshall during a historic speech at Harvard University on June 5, 1947.
April 4, 1949 - - Twelve nations signed the treaty creating NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The nations united for common military defense against the thereat of expansion by Soviet Russia into Western Europe.

"To become thrilled, excited, or stimulated by something physical, mental, or emotional. The older American slang with 'kick' is gradually being replaced by the later 'charge', having the same interpretation, but 'kick' has served well for over fifty years. Originally the 'kick' was that induced by spirituous liquor, or perhaps by a sharp condiment, and the effect was physical, though considerably milder than if delivered by a horse or mule or even a high powered gun."

History of the North Carolina State Flag
North Carolina's official flag was adopted in 1885. This red, white, and blue flag has a white star, the letters NC around the star (standing for North Carolina) and two yellow scrolls, above and below, bearing dates. The upper date, May 20th, 1775 commemorates the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (named for Mecklenburg County, where North Carolina citizens met to declare their freedom from Great Britain, although the original document was destroyed and some people have questioned its existence). The lower date, April 12th, 1776, commemorates the adoption of the Halifax Resolves (this was the first official action by a colony calling for independence from Britain).
