BULLETIN FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 7, 2016

"Did I offer peace today?  Did I bring a smile to someone's face?
did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment?  Did I forgive?  Did I love?  These are the real questions .  I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come."  ( Henri Nouwen)
Our program for this coming Thursday will be presented by Pam Cook.  She is bringing Rev. Todd Salmi,
Associate Pastor at FUMC San Marcos.  Todd has been very involved in community relationships and especially one that is called "Serve San Marcos", which is a community volunteer group that can partner with several of our community agencies to assist in meeting needs of these organizations.  In other words, "Serve Marcos" connects individual passions with the community needs.  There are many partnering organizations in our communities that can use volunteers in so many ways.  Todd was very instigational in setting up recovery teams during the flood disasters, so let's have a great turnout this week, March 10 and welcome Todd back to our club.

GREETER SCHEDULE FOR 2015/2016

It's very important for a visitor who is coming to our club meetings for the first time  to be greeted and welcomed.  We have a Greeter Schedule as part of this bulletin.  Go to the home page, cursor down on the left side and find site pages.  Click on that and you will see "Greeter schedule" (Ignore the fact that it says 2015); when you click on it it will bring up the schedule for 2015/2016.  If you are greeting on a specific day, please try to arrive, if possible, by 11:30 on Thursday, put on the "Official Greeter Badge", (in the badge box) and make everyone feel that they are the most important person in the world, member or visitor.  Thanks!
THANK YOU MARCIE FOR BRINGING THAT WONDERFUL PROGRAM LAST THURSDAY.

Thank to Marcie Burleson for bringing Gina Lombardo from Hermandez Elementary School and Connie Perez from Crockett Elementary School to talk about "Meals to Grow".  It's mission is to provide school aged children in need with healthy, well balanced, ready-to-eat foods every weekend.  It is estimated that 75% of San Marcos youth are on the free or reduced meal program at school.  Many of them receive their only hot meals at school and go home to little or no food over the weekend.  The goal of "Meals to Grow" is to provide some meals for these children over the weekend, when they are not greeting breakfast and lunch at school.
Their goal for next year is to expand into Crockett Elementary School in the fall and Bonham Pre-K in the spring.  Within 5 years, they hope to reach their goal of assisting 300 children in need each week.
Thank you Marcie, Gina, and Connie.

We welcomed Quinn Dennis last Thursday, March 3rd.  He was brought by Ted Breihan.  Visitors are always welcome at any of our meetings.
Also we failed to mention that John Polk and Jude Prather were at the Pancake Day fundraiser, but they were unable to work.
SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE!

McBride Wilson gave our club a very pleasant surprise.  Since we sort of did things at Pancake Day in slightly different way this year, McBride surprised the whole club by presenting a brand new batter mixing pot.  It was a beauty, too!  Thanks McBride!
Yay Yay!....We had a winner for Big Bucks last Thursday.
Doug Balkman was our winner for Big Bucks last Thursday.  It took awhile to find his pin, he almost had it camouflaged,
looked like just one of his shirt buttons, but it was there,  Good going Doug!!

"Last week, Vicky, a distraught wife went to the local police station in Wigan, Lancashire, along with her next door neighbor, Pauline, to report that her husband was missing.
The policeman asked for a description of the missing man.
Vicky described him clearly and in detail, 'He is 35 years old, 6 ft 4 inches, has dark eyes, dark wavy hair, an athletic build, weighs 185 pounds, is softly spoken and is fabulous with children'.
Paulene interrupts her protesting, 'Why Vicki, your husband is 5 ft 8 inches, corpulent, bald, has a big mouth, and is horrible to your children.'
Vicky replied,  with a sigh, but who wants HIM back?
   MOE'S 32D BETTER HALF MARATHON.

The weather couldn't have been nicer, the crowd couldn't have been better, over 200 racers came out yesterday morning, March the 5th to run in the 32d annual Moes Better Half race.  We had a good turnout of helpers (Beverly Crumley, Dan Langan (who also ran), Pam Cook, Randy Cook, Glenn Rydl, Del Brown, Doug Balkman, Francis Mendez, Moe Johnson, Kelli Whigham, Steve Whigham, Charles johnson (and 4 or five Med Explorers), Lon Shell, Andrew Gary, Frederick Case, Tracy Herman, James Collier, Rob Martin).  It was very well organized with plenty of food, drinks, and the runners all seemed very enthusiastic and appreciative of how well the race went.  It took over 2 hours for all to return, because it was a 13.107 mile run.
The first male runner made his run in 1 hour, 16 minutes and 49 seconds.  The first woman to come in came in at 1 hour 24 minutes & 29 seconds. Thanks to all who organized the race and made it a huge success.

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE NUMBER 12

     1.  The word 'twelve' is from the old English word, 'twelf'. literally "two left" (over ten).

     2.   In the United States, typically 12 people are appointed to sit on a jury for felony trials.

3.  A carpenter's ruler has 12 subdivisions, pharmacists and jewelers use the 12 ounce pound, grocers use 12 eggs in a dozen, and minters divide shillings into 12 pence.

4. In the color wheel, there are twelve basic hues: three primary colors, three secondary colors and six tertiary colors.

5. Christianity appropriated the number 12 from Judaism (which had picked it up from the ancient Babylonians).  Specifically, Jesus had 12 disciples, which represented the 12 tribes of Israel.

6. In the Quran, God appoints 12 leaders over the people of Israel and divides Israel into 12 tribes.  When the 12 people ask for water, Moses strikes a rock with his staff, and 12 rivers spring from the rock.  Consequently each tribe knew where to get its own water."

7. Non godly religions, such as Buddhism, also revere the number 12.  For example, Buddhists believe that life is composed of 12 stages, which together keep the wheel of life turning.

8. The number 12 is often found in the human body; there are 12 cranial nerves, 12 ribs on the average human body, and 12 systems of the human body, (cardiovascular, digestive, etc).  Additionally, the weight of blood is about 1/12 of our body.
