"Kiwanis Is A Verb"...No. 8.....
Each new Kiwanian receives a gold plated lapel pin when he or she is inducted into membership. The pin is a symbol of membership and only members of a Kiwanis club may legitimately wear the pin. Kiwanians are encouraged to wear their lapel pins whenever they are in public and some clubs "fine" members who show up at a Kiwanis meeting without one.
You will hear singing in some Kiwanis clubs, none in other clubs, but, in clubs where it happens, the willingness of many Kiwanians to sing out together unselfconsciously is probably related to the high comfort level Kiwanians have with one another. Individual members in well-established clubs don't seem to to care how bad they sound. They have come to understand that their collective effect is pleasing no matter how discordant particular individuals may be.
Kiwanians singing together during meetings is analogous to Kiwanians' working together in community service efforts. Each member has his or her strengths and weaknesses but the over-all effect is beautiful when members work together."

If you want to order Kiwanis shirts, the order forms have been at club meetings. The order must be ordered and submitted prior to September 8th. They can be ordered at the club meeting on September 8th. The photo to the left is a short sleeve dark blue dress shirt.
This Year's Chamber of Commerce Exposition was a Smashing Success!
This was the first year that our Kiwanis Club was included in the Chamber's Business Exposition and it was one of the best things that could have happened to our club. We had quite a few stop by, look at the pictures, pick up our "give away goodies", get a bottle of water, and several just wanted to find out what our club was doing in the community. We gave out many information packets, which includes a membership form. Everyone seemed to be very interested and surprised at everything that our club was doing in the community. Thanks to all those that came up to help set up, and stayed to man the booth, and then to help tear down our display. It was a grand display, and so many of our club members helped to make it that way. Those members who took turns manning the booth, were Moe Johnson,Chester Banks, Randy Cook, Pam Cook, Frederick Case, Del Brown, Charles Johnson, Doug Balkman,Glen Rydl, John Polk, Rob Martin, & Lon Shell. There were other members of the club there, but they were representing other phases of the Chamber businesses. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way.
"Our Program for Thursday, September 8th, 2016
Our program, brought by Steve Furney is Robert "Marcus" Hendry, Facilities Coordinator at TX State University. The picture shows him getting the Texas Stat6e Employee of the Month for May 2012.
Marcus started at Texas State in January of 2003. If you have ever had to schedule anything as it pertains to the Department of Health and Human Performance, you probably spoke to Marcus. He is responsible for coordination of Jowers facilty use among the Department of HHP, Athletics, and Campus Recreation just to name a couple. He is diligent in communicating with the Facilities Department to ensure routine maintenance and repair is done. This has been very beneficial since Jowers has undergone a renovation of the cooling system. Marcus has taken this very seriously to make sure to minimize any inconvenience to faculty, staff, and student's during the process.
Marcus is a problem, solver, professional, dedicated, and has a superior work ethic. He exudes a positivity that is infectious to everyone. He treats all with dignity and respect. Marcus is always concerned with the well=being of each and every faculty and staff member as it pertains to having all the essential needs in offices as well as any other facility. Let's have a great turnout for Marcus on the 8th of September.

1.........September is one of the warmest months in the Southern United States. Northern states have warm September days, but the nights get much cooler. It is also harvest time for crops.

"America The Beautiful"
Glacier National PARK IN Montana preserves over 1,000,000 acres of forests, alpine meadows and over 250 lakes, along with a few dozen glaciers. Glacier is home to over 70 species of mammals and over 260 species of birds. This spectacular park is a hiker's paradise, containing 700 miles of maintained trails. Glacier was designated a national park on May 11, 1910.
