Two scholarship recipients Deina and Daina Nafarrate will be attending our July 17th meeting to ceremoniosly receive their $1000 awards. The funds are sent directly to the school they will be attending. The third recipient Youssef Omar will come to the Aug. 7th meeting.

Kristi announced that she has started a non-profit to hold car shows. She plans to have the opportunity for Key Club members' participation.

PROGRAM:
Niki Lake, Discovery Center Specialist, gave us an impressive overview of what the San Marcos Discovery Center has been achieving. Their wildlife-focused initiatives for San Marcos are being a Monarch Champion City, Bird City Texas and Bee City. These are no small feats.

Some of the activities they are involved in are native plant propagation which includes sales of native plants in the spring and fall; demonstration gardens; and invasive plant removal to name a few. Events they put on include Snakefessst (yes, correct spelling) and a Monarch Festival. They hold programs such as wildscaping at schools and Bird Walks. This and much more are focused on conserving the wonderful natural resources here in San Marcos.

On Tuesday mornings they have a volunteer time from 8:00-11:00 where you can learn more and help out.
