After our traditional opening for the meeting, Rick introduced our very special guest the Division 12 Lt. Governor Carl Boivin, He said his focus is to get corporate members for clubs this year. It is quite an honor to have the Lt. Governor come to our meeting and stay for the program. He actively helps with the Red Cross and although his Kiwanian duties are occupying quite a lot of his time. he hopes to get to the hurricane damaged States as soon as possible. It was great to have so many members show up to meet him.
REPORTS:
Moe passed out a sign-up sheet for the Pumpkin Dash coming up on Oct. 19th. There are many details to take care of on the day of the race. If you have volunteered for set up, be at La Cima by 6:30 a.m.
The Key Club roster is complete. Enrique has said the Key Club kids would like to help with Pumpkin Dash.
Rick briefly went over future events which will be listed in the "Events" section.
He mentioned there is an online order form for Butter Braids where there are more choices than what is printed on the hard copy Rhonda passed out. The QR code is on the printed order form if you want to check that out.
BOARD MEETING REPORT:
Highlights of the Oct. 9 board meeting:
The 2024-2025 budget was discussed. The decision was made to get input from fundraising committee chairpersons to see what they thought they may need before finalizing. Time is of the essence so those committees need to get their input in, should they have any, as soon as possible.
The board approved paying for Money Minder software to make the accounting entries and reports easier to manage and understand.
"Pancake Day with Santa" is scheduled for Dec. 21st pending approval by First United Methodist Church for the space.
In the interest of making it easier to keep perfect attendance records for events and meetings other than the regular lunch meetings and board meetings where attendance is recorded by the secretary, it is recommended that chairpersons report who was in attendance at committee meetings and events. Alternatively, inidividual members who desire perfect attendance can keep their own records to send to the secretary.
PROGRAM:
Diana Baker, Krewe Captain, Krewe of Okeanos,
Texas Council for Music and the Arts
Kristin introduced Diana Baker, our speaker for the day, who is an award winning journalist and a Key Club Sweetheart. She described the annual Mardi Gras parade which she started in the Historic District of San Marcos with nothing more than a truck and patio furniture. It is known as the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos of the Texas Council for Music and the Arts. A main purpose of the parade is to promote peace in the neighborhood and bring people together. It is family oriented. A King and Queen are chosen each year by what they have done for the neighborhood. Diana showed a video that highlighted the colorful sights and sounds of a past parade winding through the neighborhood. She said they have great food and parties one of which has been a "Twelve Night Party," an old Victorian event.
Diana invited everyone to participate and even have a float in the parade. The annual parade is the Saturday before Mardi Gras so the next one will be on March 1 starting at noon. For more details go online to "San Marcos Mardi Gras."

Humor and Musings:
Upon doing research, it appears jokes about Mardi Gras are on the punny side. Laugh or groan as you wish.
Why did the crawfish invite the shrimp to the Mardi Gras parade? Because they are 'shell'mates.
What do you call a Mardi Gras magician? A 'bead'azzler.
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Alpaca.
Alpaca who?
Alpaca the beads, you catch the doubloons. Let's go to the Mardi Gras parade!
bring a guest to an upcoming meeting!
