Steve Furney is bringing the newest of faculty members at TSU. He is Dr. Gabriel P. Fife, PhD, ATC. You can see by his photo that he is just getting started in a field that should interest all of us....His interest is in the field of epidemology in sport as well as the biomechanics of head injurys.
He has done several papers dealing with the effects of Taekwondo kicks on head accelerations and injury potential. A comparison of concussion assessment and management protocols used by medical personnel at elite Taekwondo tournaments in the Republic of Korea and the United States. The biomechanics of head injury in Olympic Taekwondo and boxing.
Greeters should arrive by 11:30am to greet people that come early. If you see someone sitting by themselves, ask if you can join them. Remember we are a friendly club and we want everyone glad that they came.

Thanks Moe for bringing Amy Kirwin to last Thursday's meeting. That young lady carries quite a big load in the city of San Marcos. Her official title is "Keep San Marcos Beautiful" director, and that takes in all kinds of ways that help her to achieve her goals. She talked about how it is everyone's responsibility to keep our city clean. She talked how her organization works directly with schools and organizations, hands on activities and service-learning projects that promote environmental atmosphere. The one thing that she spoke quite a bit about was mural arts. Of course, one of the ways to keep our walls and other pieces of property free of graffiti is to put willing individuals to work creating murals to deter graffiti and beautiful our city. Local artists are working directly with members of the community who are interested in assisting in creating and implementing art pieces throughout the city. She said that the main focus of placement for murals is on commonly tagged areas. This way, citizens of our community will educated on the negative effects that graffiti has on the city, while allowing for positive self expression leading to a greater sense of community.
Amy is a "go getter" that's for sure and we were very impressed by her presentation. Thanks Moe and Amy for sharing this.
WE ARE ONLY 19 DAYS AWAY FROM OUR INSTALLATION BANQUET
The date is September 17, 2015. The event is 'Installation Banquet'. The place is 'The Price Center' on San Antonio Street. This is the time to install the new officers for 2015-2016, also present Perfect Attendance Certificates, Legion of Honor Awards, and Kiwanis of the Year. Our President Elect Moe Johnson has arranged to have LTC Tony Williams present to speak to us. He is currently an instructor in SMHS for the JRROTC program. We have had him for a program before and he is wonderful. Do plan on being there. We need to have a headcount as to who is coming. Please email me at dbrown120@austin.rr.com. The Texas-Oklahoma District Past Lieutenant Governor's Association is generously donating $2,500 to TX/OK Kiwanis Foundation in matching funds for C.T. Bush awards. Ten Bushes are available with the following guidelines. The $250 to be matched must be paid by the donor up front. When received, the matching funds will be requested and the order processed. Checks should be payable to the TX/OK Kiwanis Foundation.
The matching grant will be awarded to persons who presently do not have Bush awards. Only one Bush award can be requested by the donor. Orders will be processed in the order they are received. August 28, 1963........The March on Washington occurred as over 250,000 persons attended a Civil Rights rally in Washington, D.C., at which Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made his now-famous I have a Dream speech.
August 29, 1792.........In one of the worst maritime disasters, 900 men drowned on the British battleship Royal George. As the ship was being repaired, a gust of wind allowed water to flood into open gun ports. The ship sank within minutes.
August 30,1797...........Frankenstein author Mary Shelley was born in London.
August 31, 1997.........Britain's Princess Diana died at age 36 from massive internal injuries suffered in a high-speed car crash, reportedly after being pursued by photographers. The crash occurred shortly after midnight in Paris inside a tunnel along the Seine River at the Pont de l'Alma bridge, less than a half mile north of the Eiffel Tower. Also killed in the crash were Diana's companion, Dodi Fayed, 42, and chauffeur Henri Paul. A fourth person in the car, bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones was seriously injured.

September 2, 1752...........The British ended their use of the Julian calendar, switching instead to the Gregorian calendar, resulting in a major adjustment as Wednesday, September 2 was followed by Thursday, September 14. The correction resulted in rioting by people who felt cheated and demanded the missing eleven days back.
September 3, 1838........Anti-slavery Frederick Douglas began his escape from slavery by boarding a train in Baltimore dressed as a sailor. He rode to Wilmington, Delaware, where he caught a steamboat to the free city of Philadelphia, then took a train to New York City where he came under the protection of the Underground Railway System.
