 THIS COMING THURSDAY, JUNE 11, WE WILL HAVE OUR ANNUAL CLUB MEETING.
We are a bit behind in our annual meeting, but we are encouraging as many of our active members to be here this lcoming Thursday, June 11th to vote on those whom our Nominating Committee will be presenting for next year and the following year. We will be voting on our current President Elect (2015/2016), also we will be voting on a new President Designate who will serve from 2016-2017. Remember the new year begins October 1, and all new officers must be nominated and voted on this coming Thursday by our entire membership. Also, we will be voting for a new person to be the Club secretary for 2015/2016. We will also be voting on 3 Board Directors position for the first of a two year term. The last person to be recognized and accepted will be to receive the nomination for a new Lt. Governor for 2015/2016. We will have three Board members going off the board, having served two years, and the three new board members will begin their 1st year tenure in October of this year. So this is an important meeting, Plan to attend! Your club membership family needs the support of each other.

  OUR UPCOMING PROGRAM, THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2015
Gary Nelson will be bringing the program this coming Thursday, and it will be Clay DeStefano, Executive Director of The Price Center.
Clay's primary duties will be to take charge of the San Marcos Area Seniors Association, and support its function. His recent involvement in similar work with CTMC, as well as other non-profit groups and local civic organizations, provides him with the experience to significantly expand the Price Center's presence in this comunity.
As an accomplished visual artist in his own right, DeStefano is well suited to encourage the artistic and cultural components of this unique organization which implements distinctive programs, events and activities in a particularly attractive facility.
The Price Center is a uniique community center developed in the early 2000's by Ron & Marie Jager. The facility is housed in the historic home of First Christian Church in downtown San Marcos and includes the original 1893 church, another sanctuary constructed in 1910, dining and catering facilities, and several additional meeting and gathering venues. The Price Center'sa mission is to facilitate opportunities for social, cultural and intellecutal activities across the generations for organizations and individuals in the broader San Marcos area.

 MARK JONES REALLY BROUGHT AN FASCINATING AND MOST APPROPRIATE PROGRAM LAST THURSDAY.
How in the world could our program last Thursday be so appropriate when Mark Jones, Hays County Commissioner, Precinct 2 brought our club pretty much up to date with regards to the recent flooding disaster. Even though nobody really expected the verocity of this Memorial Day storm, Mark was able to not only tell us the state of affairs following the storm, but also the many agencies that jumped right in as volunteers opened their doors and their pocketbooks to help the victims. Thank you so much Mark for bringing us up to date.

 OUR GARAGE SALE WAS A LOT OF FUN, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT BETTER.
Well, the weather was perfect. We had a good turn out to help, a few people showed up, we sold not as many items as we would have liked, but all in all, we can't have a huge success every year. This year, not many items were brought in, and even though the recipients for the money raised was going for Flood Relief, we just have to admit, this was not one of our best fundraising projects. Those that showed up, bringing items and helping out were: John Polk, Gary Nelson, Randy Cook, Pam Cook, Veverly Crumley, Steve Whigham, Kelli Whigham, and Del Brown.....Lon Shell showed up briefly, and brought Dixie Creme donuts, but he had a conflicting appointment and was sorry he couldn't stay. All in all, we will have a fairly good figure to add to the Flood Relief. Thanks guys and gals.

 TEXAS/OKLAHOMA DISTRICT CONVENTION.
This year's District Convention will be here before you know. August 6 - 8, 2015. This year it will be in Texarkana, Tx. Registration for those attending is now open. To register as well as get all pertinent information go to the Home page of this bulletin, and click on TX/OK District News. Then click on Convention and you will get all the information necessary. REMEMBER, WE PUT OUT FLAGS OUT ON "MONDAY" JUNE 15. FLAG DAY FALLS ON SUNDAY, JUNE 14.
Here are some interesting facts about Flag Day:
1. The Second Continental Congress first approved a n ational flag on June 14, 1777.
2. The idea of Flag Day is believed to have first originated in 1885 in Fredona, Wisconsin when a school teacher began celebrating Flag Birthday.
3. The colors of the flag has meaning: Red stands for hardiness & valor; White symbolizes purity and innocence; Blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.
4. Another interesting fact is that there are 6 American Flags on the MOON. They were planted by crews from Apollo 11,12,14,15,16 and 17.
5. In 1909, Robert Perry placed a flag at the North Pole. His wife had sewn that flag. He also left pieces of another flag along the way. It is the only time a person has been honored for cutting the flag.
6. Flag Day did not become official until 1916. That year, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that established a nationwide observance of Flag Day on June 14.
7. Flag Day is observed nationwide, but Pennsylvania is the only state that recognizes it as a legal holiday.

 We always have a lot of happy situations in our club, and our Happy Dollars flows freely. We brought in almost $20 to be sent on to the Eliminate project. Most of our happiness came from a sunny day and no rain, but let's not forget the ones that lost everything in the flood, |

 June 5th, 1783........The first sustained flight occurred as a hot-air balloon was launched at Annonay, France, by brothers Joseph and Jacques Montgolfier. Their 33 foot diameter globe aerostatique ascended abouit 6,000 feet. In September, they repeated the experiment for King Louis XVI, using a sheep, rooster and duck as the balloo's passengers.June 6, 1944........D-Day, the largest amphibious landing in history, began in the early-morning hours as Allied forces landed in Normandy on the northern coast of France. Operation Overlord took months of planning and involved 1, 527,000 soldiers in 47 Allied divisions along with 4,400 ships and landing craft, and 11,000 aircraft. The Germans had about 60 divisions spread along France and the Low Countries. American forces landed on two western beaches, Utah and Omaha, while British and Canadian troops landed farther east on Gold, Juno and Sword beaches. By the end of the day, 150,000 Allied soldiers and their accompanying vehicles had landed with 15,000 killed and wounded.
June 7, 1965.....The U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Connecticut law banning contraception. In Griswold vs. Connecticut, the Supreme Court guaranteed the right to privacy, including freedom from government intrusion into matters of birth control.
June 8, 1874.......Apache leader Cochise died on the Chiricahua Reservation in southeastern Arizona. After a peace treaty had been broken by rthe U.S. Army in 1861, he waged war against settlers and soldiers, forcing them to withdraw from southern Arizona.
June 9, 1898.......The British signed a 99 year lease for Hong Kong, located on the southeastern coast of China. Hong Kong, consisting of an area measuring 400 square miles, was administered as a British Crown Colony until July 1, 1997, when dthe sovereignty reverted to the People's Republic of China.
June 10, 1652..........In Massachusetts, silversmith John Hull opened the first mint in America, in defiance of English colonial law. The first coin issued was the Pine Tree Shilling , designed by Hull.
June 11, 1895.........The first U.S. patent for the first gas-driven auto issued.
