Legion of Honor pins and Certificate Handed out last week.
Because some awards and pins did not arrive in time to be handed out at the Installation Banquet, our outgoing Secretary, Glen Rydl awarded a Legion of Honor award and pin to John Polk for 30 years, and past Lt. Governor; Also Charles Johnson received Legion of Honor pin and certificate for 40 years and for being past Lt. Governor.

Charles Johnson stimulates our club once again!
Your Bulletin Editor had to leave the meeting last week for an emergency, so he was not able to stay for Charles's program, but knowing how our club enjoys every one of his programs, your editor was sorry that he did not get to stay.
Charles presented a program dealing with "The 5G Technology Revolution Coming by Christmas."
The gist of his presentation was there is a revolution coming ( or may even has started) with regards to our society that might mean that the technology we currently are using with our cell phone might become obsolete. Charles said that with the new technology that is coming out will change our lives, entertainment, business, cars, cable TV, everything. The roll out has already started.
The Program coming up this coming Thursday
Rhonda White, our new president will be bringing the program. Bring a guest, and enjoy a good meal and a stimulating program.
Hear, Hear, Hear.....October Dash Race is just around the corner!
Once again our annual October Dash is upon us. October 19, 2019, same place, same time, and your help is needed. Helpers should be at San Marcos Toyota at 7am, and the race will start at 9am. If you want to wear a costume, do it!
Board of Directors Meeting...
Rhonda White, our new President presided over her first Board meeting last Thursday evening, Sept 26, 2019. Those in attendance were Beverly Crumley, our new Secretary; Doug Balkman, our new Treasurer; Glen Rydl, our outgoing Secretary; Ronda Young, a new board member, Lon Shell, Charles Walts, both board members, Randy Cook, the outgoing Treasurer, and Pam Cook, an outgoing board member, and Del Brown, non voting Bulletin Editor. Frederick Case, new Trustee for Region 10 was a visitor.
The business discussed was what amount of our funds go into the Special Fund and which funds go into our General Fund. Other items discussed was the 2010/2020 Budget; Increasing our flag fees from $30 to $35; Lon Shell gave an update on the our camp tractor and indicated it is in fine shape. Discussion was held regarding needing a new Key Club Advisor. Gary Strunk has been doing it, but needs to give it up. It was a good meeting and we adjourned at 6:30pm. The next meeting will be on October 24, 2019.

September 27, 1964 - - After a 10 month investigation, the Warren Commission Reposrt was issued stating a lone gunman had been responsible for the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963.
September 28, 1978 - - Pope John Paul I died after only 33 days in office. He was succeeded by John Paul II.
September 29, 1829 - - Britain's 'bobbies' made their first public appearance. Greater London's Metropolitan Police force was established by an act of Parliament at the request of Home Secretary, Sir Robert Peel, after whom they were nicknamed. The force later became known aws Scotland Yard, the site of their first headquarters.
September 30, 1938 - - British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain retuerned to England declaring there would be 'peace in our time,' after signing the Munich Pact with Adolf Hitler. The Pact ceded the Czechoslovakian Sudetenland to the Nazies. Chamberlain claimed the agreement meant peace, however, Hitler seized all of Czechoslovakia in March of 1939.
October 1, 1979 - - After 70 years of American control, the Panama Canal Zone was formally handed over to Panama.
October 2, 1967 - - Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the firsrt African American associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. He served until 1991 and was known for opposing discrimination and the death penalty, and for championing free speech and civil liberties.
October 3, 1863 - - President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation designating the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day.

"Fillmore was the 12th or 13th President of the United States. He was also known as the Accidental President because he automatically became president when Zachary Taylor died on July 9, 1850."
"Smut Eye, Alabama"
"This small town in southeastern Alabama was named for the bad habits of its men in the early nineteenth century. The big hangout of the area was the blacksmith's shop, where the men would play games, trade stories, and drink moonshine. The men would come home with blackened eyes. Their popular excuse to their wives was that it was from the smut from the blacksmith's shop, hence the name Smut Eye."

"Farmer Jones had a very beautiful horse of which he was very proud. One day he drove him into town and carefully tied the animal to the hitching post in front of the local tavern. Two thieves, hurrying through the town, happened to spy the horse and decided to steal it. Realizing that the horse was much too fine and valuable an animal to be stolen in the ordinary manner, they decided on a stratagem to carry out their plan.

Great was his surprise to see his own horse for sale there.
