Once again, a wonderful program was presented on the Hays County Food Bank.
Holly Hood one of the key people over at the Food Bank gave a wonderful overview of our Food Bank here in San Marcos. Here we see our Secretary, Glen Rydl presenting Holly a support check of $300.00.

Del Brown will be bringing Mr. John Streicher who is Director of Football Operations at Texas State University. John joined Texas State's football staff after serving on James Madison's football staff. He was named the director of football operations and player personnel at James Madison, where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the JMC football program and oversaw JMU's football recruiting and roster. He served as a special assistant to the head coach in his first year at James Madison.
John went to James Madison after spending six seasons on the football staff at Ohio State University. He worked the first four years as an equipment manager and his final two years as a student assistant with the defensive staff when he worked with the defensive staff when he worked with the defensive secondary under Coach Withers.
John earned his Bachelor's and Master's degree from Ohio State. He is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio.
"K-Kid's Induction a huge success, Oct 14, 2016"
There were ten Kiwanians last Friday attending the K-Kids Induction Ceremony at DeZavala Elementary School. The were: Tracy Herman, Doug Balkman, Pam Cook, Randy Cook, Del Brown, McBride Wilson, Chester Banks, John Polk and Gary Strunk (Jeanne Balkman also accompanied her husband.There were 30 students to be inducted, but some could not be present, but it was still a good representation there. Brittany Bousard is the new faculty sponsor and she was very excited about working with these children. The new principal of DeZavala, Elena Villanueva was there to greet children and parents and to hand out the diplomas. In addition to the induction, President Tracy Herman presented the K-Kids annual support check of $500 to Principal Villanueva and Elementary teacher Brittany Bousard.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING NEWS
Because of a conflict in scheduling the regular Board of Directors meeting which was supposed to be on the 20th of October, will be changed to Wednesday, October 19, at 5:30pm at Brookdale, 5:30pm.
Remember we have a brand new board and they are: Tracy Herman, Doug Balkman, Moe Johnson, Glen Rydl, Charles Johnson, Gary Nelson, Kelli Whigham, Beverly Crumley, Francis Mendez and Gary Strunk.

"Some committees are Administrative in nature. New Kiwanians usually see the "Membership Growth and Education Committee in action first. The Membership Committee as it is called for short, seeks out appropriate new members for the club, recommends candidates to the club's Board of Directors for approval and teaches new Kiwanians the traditions of the club and Kiwanis.
Membership is a most important committee because this committee provides the human resources that the club needs to do it's work. A Club Meeting Committee also administrative in function, sees to the physical arrangements for club meetings and schedules speakers (unless we have someone else assigned to that)
Other committees are Service oriented. These committees seek out ways for the club to serve the community and they coordinate the activities once they have been selected. The Service Committees in most clubs include Youth Services, Community Services, Spiritual and Human Affairs, Sponsored Youth and Young Children.... Clubs may have many other committees to meet the special interests of the club's members, but the above committees are the most common.
Committees all have budgets and, once their budgets have been approved at the beginning of the Kiwanis year (starting in October), the committees are normally free to spend the funs allocated to them without further approval - - within the plan approved for the committee at the beginning of the year (More next week)

"A young pastor was sitting in a restaurant eating lunch. He opened a letter from his mother he just got that morning. As he opened it a twenty dollar bill fell out. "Brasstown Bald, Georgia!"
Brasstown Bald is the highest point in the state of Georgia. Located in northeast Georgia, the mountain is known to the native Cherokee people as Enotah. The name in English is derived from a mistaken translation of the term for a former Cheroikee village nearby, located along the upper Brasstown Creek feeding the Hiawassee River.
Across the North Carolina state line, immediately North of the mountain, are other places named in that error of English settlers: Brasstown, a community in the Brasstown township of Clay County, NC.
Brasstown Bald is partly in both Towns and Union counties, the peak being divided by the county line. On a clear day, it is possible to see the tall buildings of Atlanta, Georgia from the summit. The U.S. Forest Service has webcams atop the observation tower (photo), and a RAWS weather station further down the mountain.
