Susie handed out flyers on the "Great Pumpkin Dash" scheduled for October 25th at La Cima. One flyer is to post and share wherever you can to promote participant registration. There is a QR code on the flyer for easy sign up. The second flyer is a list of Sponsorship Packages to use when going for sponsors for the race. This includes a sign up form sponsors may use. Susie has really been on top of this fundraiser starting in early summer.  She has done a fantastic job designing these flyers so let's get the word out as soon as possible. She will need some volunteers to help put together goody bags for hand outs. Please contact Susie if you want to help.

PROGRAM: Dennis Gutierrez with the Sunshine Kids was our guest speaker today. Wearing a "Cancer Sucks" pin, he described the history of how this organization came to be and what its mission is. The foundation was created by Rhoda Tomasco in 1982 while she was volunteering in the pedriatric cancer unit in a hospital in Houston. She saw how depressed and lonely the children were so came up with the idea of a program to give them fun, joy and hope through group activities and opportunities.  A porcelain pin in the shape of a sun, which the children paint, is symbolic of the warmth of friendship and support, life giving force and hope for the future. There are ten major trips sponsored for the children to choose from across America as well as local events for those who cannot travel. Texas offers the "Texas Hill Country Adventure" which includes tubing and canoeing, a Sheriff's dept. barbeque, a ranch party and a day at Schlitterbaun along with games and other activities.
Dennis, who is very passionate about this program, envisions major organizations including Kiwanis getting involved by doing a local event. Kristi offered horseback riding at her equestrian center and Rick offered use of the McBride Wilson camp in some capacity.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS:
July 31st: Nothing scheduled so far although Kate Esqueda with the Hays County Back-to-School Fair may be able to make it. Their event is on August 2nd so timing might not work out.
