We Had a Winner last week. Glen Rydl won, had his pin and everything, and he kept the contents of the jar.
Remember the Date of this Fundraiser....April 14.....from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.
We are expected. Let's have a great crowd. This is a Fundraiser for us.
Our Program from last week, March 23rd, 2017
Beverly Crumley brought Jim Pendergast from San Marcos to be our speaker last Thursday, and Tracy Herman introduced him. We have different speakers speak on various subjects and they are all not only interesting but give all of us much to think about. Such was Jim's program, which was truly an inspirational and heartwarming story of his family. His topic was simply, 'A Family's Coming out Story'. Jim began his talk by telling the club that when his son Jimmy was 19 years, he came into his parents presence and announced that he was gay. Jim, Sr said that that one statement and event transformed his family's life and those of their extended family and friends.
Our club sat spellbound by the forthrightly way in which the love and affection of Jim's family was affected and conditioned in a most positive way by their son's feelings about himself. Jim's family has totally accepted their son's lifestyle and their love for Jimmy has never diminished one bit. Jimmy has a male partner and they are very happy.
Our club felt very comfortable in asking Jim about whether he was ever ashamed of Jimmy's lifestyle, and he said, 'Absolutely not!' Their love as a family has become very close with the facts as they are.
Jim said that every individual has a destiny to fulfill. He said that his son didn't have any plausible explanation for being gay, but as he inquired about whether his grandfather would love him because of it, his grandfather pondered a minute or so and then in essence, "I loved you when you were born, and I love you now. Nothing has changed!"
Our club members thank Beverly and Tracy for bring Jim Pendergast to our club, and for his very forthright testimony of true family love.

..........March 26, 1992 - - Soviet Cosmonaut Serge Krikalev returned to a new country (Russian) after spending 313 days on board the Mir Space Station. During his stay in space, the Soviet Union (USSR) collapsed and became the Commonwealth of Independent States.
..........March 27, 1977 - - The worst accident in the history of civil aviation occurred as two Boeing 747 jets collided on the ground in the Canary Islands resulting in 570 deaths.
.......March 28, 1979 - - Near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant accident occurred in which uranium in the reactor core overheated due to the failure of a cooling valve. A pressure relief valve then stuck causing the water level to plummet, threatening a catastrophic nuclear meltdown. The accident resulted in the release of radioactive steam into the atmosphere and created a storm of controversy over the necessity and safety of nuclear power plants.
...........March 29, 1979 - - In the U.S. Congress, the House Select Committee on Assassinations released its final report regarding the killings of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy.
...........March 30, 1981 - - Newly elected President Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest while walking toward his limousine in Washington, D.C....following a speech inside a hotel. The president was then rushed into surgery to remove a 22 caliber bullet from his left lung. "I should have ducked," Reagan joked. Three others were also hit including Reagan's Press Secretary, James Brady, who was shot in the forehead and survived. The president soon recovered from the surgery and returned to his duties.

"Sugar, why don't you sit down by the table and we'll start supper, said Dorothy to her husband of 50 years. "Sure thing," said her husband settling himself down.
"Now darling, would you like the soup first or the salad?" questioned Dorothy.
"Umm I guess I'll take the soup", he responded.
After a whole meal of one endearing term after another, their guest Bob couldn't contain his curiosity any longer. Bob snuck into the kitchen and asked, "Dorothy do you always talk to your husband like that?"
"Bob, I'll be honest with you," Dorothy replied. "It's been five years now, I just can't remember his name and I am just too embarrassed to ask him!!!"

.Here is another beautiful spot in our 'America the Beautiful' series"........'The Na Pali Coast State Park in Hawaii.
The Na Pali Coast State Park is a 6,175 acre state park located in the center of the rugged 16 miles along the northwest side of Kaua'i, the oldest inhabited Hawaiian island. The Na Pali coast itself extends southwest starting at Ke'e Beach extending all the way to Polihale State Park.
To the east of the state park is the Hono O Na Pali State Natural Reserve. It was established in 1983, and then extended to over 3,578 acres in 2009. Hiking trails and hunters roads have access to the sharp ridges from Koke'e Road (route 550) in Waimea Canyon.
The first settlers on the Na Pali Coast were Polynesian navigators around 1200 AD. Soon after, many Tahitian migrants followed, shaping the culture of Kauai and other Hawaiian islands today. After Kauai was visited by Captain Cook in 1778, many Westerners began traveling to the island. As more foreigners arrived the Hawaiian tribes along the Na Pali Coast where Na Pali Coast State Park now exists began to die off from Western diseases. The last known native Hawaiians to live along the Na Pali Coast were sighted in the 20th century.
