 WE ARE ONLY 12 DAYS AWAY FROM OUR INSTALLATION BANQUET
Our Installation Banquet is just around the corner. September 17th will be here before we know it. Right now it looks we will have around 43 together w/ our members and our known guests, 6 club members have paid, and Randy would like to have the rest paid this coming Thursday. You can write a check or cash and give it to Randy. If you are planning to attend, but haven't definitely told me so, you may not get in. E-mails have been sent out and I have only received one response back. Remember our Banquet is going to have a wonderful speaker, LTC Tony Williams who is one of the instructors over at SMHS in the JR-ROTC program. He is a fantastic motivational speaker, you will want to hear him.
Besides the wonderful meal furnished by Stegler Chiffonade, of Chicken Scarpariello and Beef Bourguignon, with green beans almandine, garlic mashed potatoes, spinach and cranberry salad, rolls, drinks of tea, coffee and water and Banana and Coconut cream pie, all for $30.00 a person, a little higher than last year, but not that much. Plan on giving Randy the money this Thursday or anytime short of the 17th. He doesn't want to be collecting money the night of the banquet.
Remember, beside the installation of our new officers for 2015/2016, we will be handing out several awards from perfect attendance to Legion of Honor recipients and Kiwanian of the Year. There will also be a special award given out.

 I hope that everyone enjoyed the extra day off for Labor Day, on Monday. Our flag displayers were out in grand force, and all flags were put out 
and picked up again. I don't know about everyone else, but I get a real patriotic spirit every time, I place a flag on a lamp post, or on the side of the building, or on a railing, or in the ground. I often will salute after placing it. Thanks to the following Kiwanians who came out on Monday morning to put up flags - Glen Rydl, Francis Mendez, Randy Cook, Randall Grizzle and his wife, Fay, Del Brown, Frederick Case, John Polk, Lon Shell, Gary Strunk, James Collier, Charles Johnson, Ted Breihan, and Gary Nelson

Patriot Day....An annual observance on September 11 to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States...September 11, 2001.
We will be putting up flags on this coming Friday, September 11, in respect and observance for that awful tragedy that happened throughout our United States.
We all remember that day....four planes were highjacked, then the hijackers deliberately flewthree of the planes into two important buildings, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The fourth crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The loss of life and damages that these hijackers caused from the biggest act of terrorism ever on United States soil. Nearly 3000 people died in the attacks and the economic impact was immense.
Our flag displayers meet at Ted's place, as usual, at 7am. You might to pause fior a moment of silence at 8:46 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time.

What a powerpacked presentation Dr. Gabriel Fife gave to our club last Thursday. He is the newest addition to TX State's Department in Health and Human Performance. He was brought by Steve Furney. His specialty dealt with testing and measuring just how much damage is done to the human body, specifically the head in the Martial Arts of Taequondo, He did a lot of his studies over in Korea, where this sport is heavily practiced. He didn't demonstrate any of the movements, but did state that he has found out that the human head can only take so much punishment. His research was also in obtaining the right type of head gear which prevents serious injury. He has performed in Taequondo in Korea and the US, but his activities sort of now limited to just doing research. It was a very interesting program. Thank Steve for bringing Dr. Fife to our club.

September 4, 1781..........Los Angeles was founded by the Spanish Governor of California, Felipe de Neve, near the site of the Native American village of Yang-na. The original name was El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles (The town of the Queen of the Angels)
September 5, 1774...........The first Continental Congress assembled in Philadelphia with 56 delegates, representing every colony, except Georgia. Attendees included Patrick Henry, George Washington, Sam Adams and John Hancock.
September 6, 1991........Leningrad was renamed Saint Petersburg by Russian legislators following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russian's second largest city had been known as Leningrad for 67 years in honor of Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Soviet Union.
September 7, 1999...........For the first time since World War II, Germany's parliament, the Bundestag, returned to Berlin, former capital of Imperial Germany as well as Hitler's Reich. The Bundestag held its first session in the fully restored Reichstag building, attended by parliamentarians from around the world. The session also marked the 50th anniversary of the Bundestag first post-war session, held in Bonn, the former capital of West Germany.
September 8, 1883.........The Northern Pacific Railroad across the United States was completed.
September 9, 1776..........The United States came into existence as the Continental Congress changed the name of the new American nation from the United Colonies.
September 10, 1898.........Elizabeth, Empress of Austria-Hungary, was assassinated in Geneva by an anarchist.
