ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REPORTS:
1. Member Updates: Chester Banks is in rehab at Hays Rehab. He is scheduled to be discharged, soon. Paul Jensen is still recovering from his accident but still intends to join our club.
2. Presidential Recognition Award: Rick Pickering received notification that he was awarded the Presidential Recognition Award from Kiwanis International, for his outstanding leadership while president of the club during 2024-2025. This is the first time this award has being given out by KI President Lee Kwan.
3. Installation Banquet: Rick Pickering has created a Signup Genius invitation for club members to let us know how many to expect for the banquet. You can find the link by checking email sent out on Aug. 4, 2026. Very important that you sign up, as soon as possible, so we have an exact count for meals to be ordered.
4. San Marcos Business Expo: We have a booth with wall space! Penny has ordered several posters showing club activities and Rick is arranging to have samples of the "Emergency Backpacks" that our club will be promoting as a service project. The Expo is on Aug. 19, 2026, from 10:00-2:00, at Embassy Suites. Hopefully, we will be able to encourage donations from the general public, to make this service project a success! Plan to come out on Aug. 19, 2026, to support our club. Admission for those wanting to attend is $5.00 or 5 cans of food.
5. Need Committee members: Lon Shell has received the annual request, from the San Marcos Art League, for funding of their "Art Scared" event. In order to make decisions on fund requests, Lon has requesting adding a couple more members to serve on this committee. He stated that it is an easy committee to serve on, as it requires no extra meetings or time. The only prerequisite is that the committee member needs to respond to an email. Please let Lon know if you would be interested in serving on this committee.
6. Good Citizen Camp:
The second session of the Good Citizen Camp is going strong and has averaged 15 kids. Kristi Dame and Emily Sousa planned a full week of programs, and other activities, and the kids really got a lot out of it. Thank you, Kristi and Emily, for another successful summer!
8. Scholarship Update: Vanessa Westbrook shared several statistics regarding the 6 scholarships that the San Marcos Kiwanis Club gave out, at the end of the 2026 school year.
a. The 6 students chosen made up 15% of the number of students that applied.
b. The 6 students receiving the scholarships are register for school, in the fall, at 1 of 3 universities: UT of Austin, Texas State University, and Texas A&M.
c. All paperwork has been turned in, all universities have received their funds, and the entire process has been completed!
Sounds like this year's scholarships were a BIG success! Vanessa would like to thank the club personally for their support and professional courtesty!
