The Program Last Thursday took us all on Aircraft Flight
Not really, but it made a lot of us truly wish we could be a part of the Civil Air Patrol. Charles Johnson brought Maj Chris Baker, also Dr. Chris Baker , who is the assistant commander of the Civil Air Patrol here in our area. I don't believe any in our club was truly aware of all of the training that goes into being a part of this very life saving organization. He covered so much territory, it was hard to keep up with him, but it was one program that I would recommend to anyone.
No notes, just visual pictures on the screen. He covered a lot of territory and it was really very fantastic to learn that a young boy or girl can get started in the CAP as young as 13 years. I wish I was that age again, but when I think back on my life, I wouldn't change it for anything! Thanks Charles and Thanks Chris. Chris, y'all come back now ya hear!

San Marcos Kiwanis Board Meeting.
Our new President Kelli Whigham conducted her first Board of Directors meeting last Thursday, October 4th over at CTMC Conference Room on the third floor, Room 305.
Those present were: Kelli Whigham, Glen Rydl, Randy Cook, Del Brown, Charles Walts, Andrew Gary, Lon Shell Doug Balkman and Pam Cook. Only one item was on the docket and that was to explore the new Budget for the year 2018/2019. Randy Cook, our Treasurer did a marvelous job of bringing up the board on our finances and the Board was well pleased with what was developed for next year's budget. Thank you Randy.
The Pumpkin Dash is this coming weekend!
Every member is needed at the San Marcos Toyota on this Saturday, October 13 to help with our annual October Dash Run. The race will start at 9:00am, but workers need to be there by 7am. This is a fun race, it's close to Halloween, so wear a costume if you so desire. If you signed up to bring something, don't forget. It's a fun race both for children & adults. Let's have fun. Meet in the back lot of San Marcos Toyota.
Club Family Club Picnic being planned!
Last Thursday, it was announced that we would have another Club Group Picnic out at our camp. A sign up sheet was passed around and people signed up for what they would bring. The date will be Saturday, October 20th. Hopefully there will be a bit of camp clean up before we eat. The clean up will be on Friday, October 19th at 10:30am. If you can go out and help with the clean up, it would be much appreciated.

2...October 6, 1973 - - The Yom Kippur War started as Egypt and Syria launched attacks on Israeli positions on the East Ban of the Suez and the Golan Heights.
3...October 7, 1985 - - Palestinian terrorists seized the Italian passenger ship Achille Lauro carrying about 440 persons, threatening to blow it up if Israel did not free 50 Palestinian prisoners. Leon Klinghoffer, an elderly wheelchair-bound American was murdered.
4...October 8, 1918 - - During World War I in the Argonne Forest in France, U.S. Sergeant Alvin C. York single-handedly took out a German machine-gun battalion, killing over a dozen and capturing 132. He was later awarded the Medal of Honor and the French Croix de Guerre.
5...October 9, 1970 - - Cambodia declared itself the Khmer Republic following the abolishment of the monarchy by the legislature.
6...October 10. 1973 - - Spiro E. Agnew resigned the office of Vice President of the United States amid charges of income tax evasion on illegal payments allegedly received while he was governor of Maryland and after be became Vice President. He was later given a $10,000 fine and sentenced to serve three years probation. He was succeeded as Vice President by Gerald R. Ford, who went on to become President after the resignation of Richard M. Nixon.
7..October 11, 1939 - - Albert Einstein warned President Franklin D. Roosevelt that his theories could lead to Nazi German's development of an atomic bomb. Einstein suggested the U.S. develop its own bomb. This resulted in the top secret "Manhattan Project".

If a nobleman married beneath himself, custom said that the man would give the bride his left hand, rather than his right. This type of 'left-handed wedding' was not really worth much because the man's wife or children could never gain his property. So, the marriage wasn't really valid, but just for social appearances. By the 16th century, these were no longer performed. But, society still referred to anything that on the surface appeared to be something that it wasn't as 'left handed.' Today, sometimes a compliment is really meant as an insult (or a snide remark) and is referred to as a left-handed compliment because it's not really sincere."

What Do we Know about the History of our 52 state flags. Bear with me, I think it will be enlightening!.....Wyoming
Wyoming's official flag was adopted in 1917. The flag has a deep blue field surrounded by white and red borders. A white bison dominates the flag. It has the state seal in the center.
The state seal pictures a rancher and a miner on either side of a woman. The woman represents the state's motto 'Equal Rights', which is written on a banner she is holding. Wyoming was the first state in which women had the right to vote and hold public office. The words 'Livestock', 'Mines', 'Grains,' and 'Oil' are on two columns that are on either side of the woman. They represent Wyoming's agricultural and mineral wealth. A shield (with stripes and a star) and an eagle are under the woman, they symbolize support for the United States. The dates 1869 and 1890 are on either side of the shield; they are the dates when Wyoming organized as a territory of the United States and when it became a state.
