Our program for this coming Thursday, April 14.
Our program for this week will be brought by Gary Strunk. It will be on School Fuel. We will be having two representatives bringing this program. They are Nancy Smith(sitting on the far right, front row) and Jenny Mangrun, (Third from the far left, front row in purple shirt).
School Fuel's mission is to provide the fuel for a better learning environment by removing the pangs of hunger among the students in our classrooms. Over 75% of our school age children are on reduced or free meals at school. Most of them go home on the weekends to little or no food. Statistics show that children who struggle with hunger at home perform at lower levels in school during the week.
School Fuel is currently serving 499 students who have high risks of little or no food at home. On average it is about $215 per student for the whole school year. Each sack consists of 2 meals and 4 snacks for each day of the weekend,
School Fuel is solely operated by and accomplished with volunteers. Using volunteers keeps the operation costs low, which maximizes the number of children we are able to feed.
Let's have a great turnout for this program and thanks to Gary for getting the program and for Nancy and Jenny for making the presentation.
`WHAT A FANTASTIC PROGRAM LAST THURSDAY.
Mr. Larry Terrell and Ted Price brought a wonderful program entitled "Footprints Children's Grief Ministry. They drove down from Roundrock where this program is making great progress.
Larry spelled out the program in great detail as being a ministry for children 6 - 18 years old who have experienced grief in their young lives. Footprints provides an environment where grieving children can express what they feel, and learn that they are not alone in dealing with the touch circumstances life sometimes brings. They brought a game with them that gives the children an opportunity to work their inner feelings out and have fun doing it. All of the activities and games are group-based emphasizing the theme of "You are not alone."
This type of program would certainly bear exploring for our community. Thanks to Larry and Ted for coming down and letting us know how possibly this could be used in our community. We need individuals who are interested in this and they are willing to help train individuals into how to get it going. Thanks Del Brown for bringing these heart-filled individuals to our club.
Welcome to our guests last Thursday. They were Ben Rodriquez, a guest of Del Brown, and David Myers, president of the Luling Club. who was the guest of Lon Shell. Thank you both for coming. We hope you come again and bring a friend with you.
KIWANIS OF THE MONTH
On Thursday March 31st, President Moe as he has done each month since he took office last October, has picked an individual and presented a blue T-Shirt that has 'Kiwanis of the Month" printed on it. This month, Moe picked Doug Balkman. Doug is currently the Program Chairman of our club, and he has done a fantastic job of selecting members of the club to present a program each week. He has just put out a new list for April, May and June, If you have a program coming up, please let the bulletin editor know, so that he can research and get it in the Bulletin the week before the program is given. Doug not only puts out the program schedule, but he is always available for every special project that might come up in our club. Doug, you are truly an inspiration and deserving to be KOTM.

Big Bucks is growing again. Next week, it will be $6.00. Chad Burns, (whose name was drawn) couldn't be there this week because of his busy school schedule, but he's doing a great job with the Builder's Club over at Miller Middle School.

Friends of Scouting Luncheon to Honor BRUCE INGRAM.
Friends of Scouting luncheon will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1001 E. McCarty Lane. This organization benefits Scouting Programs in Central Texas. This year, Mr. Bruce Ingram, Co-founder, Ingram ReadyMix and Philanthropist will be the honored guest. It is presented by the Texas Pioneer Foundation. Individuals and organizations within San Marcos have been invited to have a table with up to ten persons from the different organizations. Our Kiwanis club has been invited, and the following members and their spouses have agreed to be there and occupy a table. Our club will also give a donation to help this very significant youth organization. Those Kiwanians that will be going are: Ted & Francis Breihan, Doug & Jeanne Balkman, Tracy Herman, Kelli Whigham, Del & Marie Brown, and Randy & Pam Cook.
