Three young Dames returned again as Kristi's guests.
Lon opened the meeting doing the Big Bucks and Happy Dollars. Chester won this time.
Lon was disappointed in member turnout for this meeting and hopes Rick will give a second presentation about the Kiwanis District Convention experience in a future meeting. As noted below under "Program," Rick had a very positive experience and has some ideas for future club endeavors.
REPORTS:
Jesse gave information about a "Back 2 School Bash" which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10th at 107 Centerpoint Rd. If you want to donate school supplies, please bring them to the Aug. 8th club meeting. Our club is signed up for a booth so if you have some time to volunteer that day let Jesse know. An email was sent out to everyone last week. We will have a "Ring Toss" game with school supply prizes for winning tosses. Lon thanked Jesse for taking the initiative to put this together. This is a great example of what our club is about. We will be helping out students and getting more exposure for the club. All good.

Kiwanis District Convention July 24 th – July 27th 2024
Tahlequah OK, AKA = Northeast OK’s Green Country
I arrived in Tahlequah OK Thursday Night after picking up Chuck Ewing from the Allen Club and we road together. Chuck is the Allen club President Elect so we both had a common goal for the convention.
Governor Dr. Kathy Culberson hosted the convention. The theme was focused on Women of Kiwanis.
Opening ceremony included a talk from Cherokee Nation Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. is the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation.
The Cherokee Nation is the largest Native American tribe in the United States, with over 300,000 tribal members.
Kiwanis International Speaker was Paul Palazzolo – Great Speaker, very funny guy.
Guest Speaker was Captain Charlie Plumb. A true top gun. He was shot down during the Vietnam War, captured and was a POW for 6 years.
Women of Kiwanis: There were many women of Kiwanis clubs recognized for they outstanding work done for their clubs and community. We have so many outstanding women in our club and honestly I felt like we missed an opportunity to be recognized and awarded for the work done here in San Marcos.

(The AkTion club is one we may explore further as a program for our club.)
I was the delegate for District 38 and we voted for 2025 Governor and Governor Elect.
Bobby Quinten is the 2025 District Governor
John Cano is the 2025 District Governor Elect.
It was an honor for me to attend and I felt like I have been isolated from the district since joining Kiwanis in 2018. I am encouraging any club members to attend a district convention in the future. It is an inspiring, learning experience and so exciting to feel a part of a larger Kiwanis Community.
