eSamantha Armbruster's 'Main Street Program' hits home!
Last Thursday, Samantha Armbruster, Program Manager of the 'Main Street Program' and Debbie Harvey, also from the Main Street Program did an excellent job of filling us in on all of the various programs that Main Street is doing for the city of San Marcos.
Since San Marcos became a main street city, nearly $57.5 million in private and public sector investments have been made in downtown
San Marcos. San Marcos received official main street designation from the Texas Historical Commission in 1986, after starting the program in 1984 as a self-initiated project.
Main Street is a development program designed to capitalize on the unique character of the downtown commercial district. Programs and projects are developed to address the needs of downtown San Marcos. Main Street's success is based on a comprehensive strategy of work, tailored to local needs and opportunities in four broad areas, including organization, design, promotion and economic restructuring.
Thank you Kelli for bringing these two ladies to our club meeting, and thank you Samantha and Debbie for being our program for last week. It was wonderful!

"31st Annual Chamber of Commerce Exposition"
I know that this is a bit early, but when you look at the calendar, September 1st is just around the corner. We are a member of the Chamber of Commerce in San Marcos and proud to be, so we will be a part of this year's Exposition held at the Embassy Suite on September 1st. We will have a Roundtable for our club meeting, but we will be needing members of our club to be at our Expo table and be ready to field any questions that might come up. This is a wonderful opportunity to spread the word about what our Kiwanis Club does for children & youth in our community. When you are asked to take a turn at manning the table, please say "Yes" with great enthusiasm. Remember the date, September 1st (Thursday) at the Embassy Suite. You will be contacted as to when you can man the table at the Exposition.

The elected leaders of Kiwanis, too, can sometimes attain positions for which they are incompetent but the misery (theirs & ours) lasts only a year"

"How About Some Fast Facts on the Subject of Movies & TV?"

"America The Beautiful"
The beautiful Grand Canyon in Arizona is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The National Park is honored by the United Nations as a World Heritage Site. Located entirely in northern Arizona, the park encompasses 277 miles of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. This canyon is one of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world. It became a National Monument in 1908 and a National Park in 1919. The Grand Canyon attracts more than 5 million visitors each year.
