Lon opened the meeting. Kinnias Diez, Rick's mother-in-law, came to visit again. There is hope of her becoming a new member. Chester and Luanne are back! Chester has recovered enough to make it to the meeting. He is looking great.
REPORTS:
Jeanne announced that on Jan. 15th, MLK day, the American flags will need to be put out for the day.
Lon mentioned that he wants a report every week from different committees for their guidelines to be presented to club members.
Rick reported on the Pancake Breakfast task list. He said there has been a popular demand to restart this event. He has a comprehensive plan written based in part from Doug's "book" of previous pancake meals. He wants to start serving the meal at 8:00 to noon on March 9th at the First United Methodist Church by San Marcos Square. Placemats made from business cards of participating advertisers will help fund the event. A single business card will cost $50. No tickets will be sold but donations are very welcome and may possibly be made on the website. There will be no auction. Set up for the event will be the night before. Please do volunteer. It takes many hands to accomplish this. Rick already emailed information to all members.
Rick also went over the insulation needed to winterize the camp pump house and the need to put antifreeze in the toilets to prevent freezing during the colder months. The bathrooms need cleaning, as well. This will be done Saturday starting at 11:00.
PROGRAM:
The speaker from the San Marcos Activity Center did not arrive for the meeting so Moe did the honors. He described the decision making for whether to build the Activity Center first or the Convention Center. It came down to voting with the Activity Center winning out. This center and the public library are two of the most frequented public facilities in San Marcos. There were many decisions to be made about what to include in the Activity Center for fitness and sports with some redoing at times. Most of the activities are free while some require a fee. UPCOMING PROGRAMS:
Jan.11th: Green Guy Recycling. Per Moe's statement, "this is a huge facility that recycles almost anything you can imagine. People will bring in items to recycle and will get paid in cash for those items. They also have storage bins to rent and other things used to recycle stuff a person may have in their home. The presenter is the same person that presented to Rotary, and that club said it was one of their best programs. This could be a good program to bring a guest."
Also at this meeting, Michelle Stange and possibly two of the 4H students participating in Fancy Feathers will attend to receive our donation to Fancy Feathers. Please come to show your support.
