OUR UPCOMING PROGRAM, THURSDAY, JUNE 25th, 2015
John Polk will be bringing our program this coming Thursday, June 25 instead of Beverly Crumley who had to be out of town. He will be bringing our own Charles Johnson, who in addition to being our Kiwanis supporter of the Medical explorers of the Boy Scouts, is also a great traveler. We have been enthralled in the past by places that Charles has traveled, and this time, he is going to take us on a trip to Spain, I think all of us have ideas of what Spain is like, well, Charles will be bringing us interesting and possibly facts that we never even dreamed of. Be sure and attend this coming Thursday.

Average per member: $365.08.
Total Model & 100K Clubs: 1,070
The TX-Oklahoma District has a total of 64 Model & 100K Clubs.
They have raised $2,458,886 for an average per member of $246.55.
UNICEF and its partners have combated maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) across the globe through education, outreach and mass immunizations drives. In addition to delivering tetanus vaccines to even the remotest areas by any means necessary - including on horseback and even on foot - - UNICEF has trained traditional midwives and birth attendants in safe birthing practices and distributed safe birthing kits. To help stem the tide of MNT, UNICEF has also supported prenatal care and a wide range of other maternal and newborn health services.
Since 1999, UNICEF and its partners have immunized nearly 100 million women with two or more do=ses of the vaccine and have eliminated the disease in 37 countries. Countries that have recently validated the elimination of MNT include Sierra Leone, Gabon, Laos and Madagascar. MNT still remains a deadly threat in 22 couintries.
OUR PRAYERS AND SYMPATHY.
Our prayers and expressions of sympathy go out to one of our neighboring Kiwanis Clubs. Andrew Nelson, president of the Sequin club just lost his father, Dr. Richard Jens "Doc" Nelson, who passed away on June 18th, 2015. Our club wants to extend to Andrew and his wife Amy as well as other members of the Nelson family our deepest sympathy in this very personal loss. God Bless You.

HISTORICAL EVENTS THAT HAPPENING DURING THE WEEK OF JUNE 19th - JUNE 25TH
June 19, 1953......Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed by electrocution at Sing sing prison in New York. They had been found guilty of providing vital information on the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union duriing 1944-45. They were the first U.S. civilians to be sengtenced to death for espionage and were also the only m,arried couple ever executed together in the U.S.
June 20, 1782......The U.S. Congress officially adopted the Great Seal of the United States of America.
June 21, 1964......Three white civil rights workers, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner - left Merdian Mississippi at 9am, to investigate a church burning. They were expected back by 4pm. When they failed to return a search was begun. Their murdered bodies were discovered on August 4th.
Hybe 22,1918.......A Michigan Central Railroad troop train struck the rear of the Hagerbeck-Wallace Circus train in Ivanhoe Indiana. Fifty three circus performers were killed. Of the circus animals not killed, most were maimed and had to be destroyed. The performers, of whom only three could be identified, were buried in a mass grave.
June 24, 1948......Soviet Russia began a blockade of Berlin. Two days later the Allies responded with an emergency aisrlift to relieve two million isolated West Berliners. During the Berlin Airlift, American and British planes few about 278,000 flights, delivering 2.3 mkillion tons of food, coal and medical supplies. A plane landed in Berlin every minute from eleven Allied staging areas in West Germany. The Russians lifted their blockade of Berlin on May 12, 1949,however the airlift continued until September 30th.
June 25, 1876.....General George A. Custer, leading 250 men, attacted an encampment of Sioux Indians near Little Big Horn River in Montana. Custer and his men were then attacked by 2000-4000 Indian braves. Only one scout and a single horse 'Custer's Last Stand' on the Little Bighorn Battlefield. News of the humiliating defeat infuriated Americans and led to all out war. Wisthin a year, the Sioux Indians were a broken and defeated nation.
