"One of the entertainers on a cruise ship was a magician. since the passengers were different each week, the magician always had a new audience.
So he always did the same tricks. the captain's parrot, however, was stationed in the performance hall, and observed the magicians tricks week after week. Being a wise old bird, he eventually figured ouit all the magician's secrets. Then, irritatingly, he started heckling during the show. 'Hey, why is every card the same? It's in hi cape pocket! It's a different rabbit!' The magician was fuming, but it was the captain's parrot so he couldn't really do anything.
One terrible day, however, the ship had a boiler explosion and sank. the magician wound up on a small raft in the middle of the Atlantic with, as luck would have it, the captain's parrot. They glared at each other with visible hatred but didn't say a word. This went on for several days. Finally on the tenth day, the parrot couldn't take it any longer. Exasperated, he said, 'Okay, I give up. Where's the ship?'"

Our club will be having our annual Christmas Luncheon on Thursday, December 11th at the San Marcos BBQ, located at 2601 Hunter Road. It has just been refurbished and serves excellent food. . It has a separate meeting room with tables to seat at least 80 persons. We have invited other members of the clubs in our Division, to join us and make it an Interclub The cost will be $8.25 plus tax, and you can pay at the counter. We will be having Christmas music and Christmas Trivia. Let's have a great time. Right now, we have 27 from our club attending. Not sure who is coming from the other clubs.

Don't Forget!!!!...We need at least 9 or 10 members to come to DeZavala School and help distribute "goodies" for those children who have been selected by their teachers and fellow students as "Terrific Kids". These children come to school every day, don't cause any problems, eager to learn, behave extremley well, are very disciplined and in general are on their ways to go from being student to being good citizens. So come out on Friday, December 12,at 2:00pm in the school cafeteria. If you have never done this before, it is a real blessing to see the smiles and joy on these children's face. They are proud. See you there!

K-Kids Information. Let's have a great turnout on  Thursday, December 18 when Randy & Pam will bring the K-Kids as our program. Along with them will be several K-Kids, along with Kayla Cook, the faculty Advisor, and the School principal, Mr. Tim Maresch. Also there may be two other advisors as well. The K-Kids program is a very important one from De-Zavala school, and we need to get more involved with them. There are plenty of good service projects out there, but we as Kiwanians should take more of an interest in what they are doing. We need to attend some of their meetings , which are being planned for the first & third Wenesday morning from 7:30-8:00 am. The San Marcos Consolidated Independence School District Administration and Board of Trustees want to thank Kiwanis Club of San Marcos for the donation of $500.00 to Lorenzo de Zavala Elementary School. We appreciate Kiwanis Club of San Marcos's interest and support of the students in the San Marcos C.I.S.D.

Even though Dr. Anthony Cedrone was to have been our program last Thursday, because he was sick, Gary Nelson brought Jonathan Mendoza as the program. With Dr. Mendoza, was Jessica Jolly from CTMC. Dr. Mendoza's expertise is pain management and his presentation was absolutely wonderful, filled with all kinds of ways pain can be managed without necessarily having surgery. Back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, and every other kind of pain can be treated

Our Lt. Gov. Rob Martin did an assessment on how our club rated with regards to achieving club goals and improving the club experience based on our club's input. Rob will go more into detail as to how our club stacked up, but not going into the individual pluses and minuses, our club rated a total score of 114. Anything over 104 expresses how our club impacts our community and our members. This survey is based on what we are doing well, as well as where we could shift up a gear or two in certain areas. We can celebrate our successes, and think about how those successes can inspire opportunities for improvement. What are we doing well - and how might those qualities bridge the gap between our clubs's strengths and opportunities for improvement.
