Brown Santa Visited our Club last week
Thanks to Beverly Crumley, Lt. Dennis Gutierrez, who heads up the Brown Santa program for San Marcos Sheriff's Department, brought our club some very vital information on the Brown Santa Program. The Brown Santa Headquarters is located at: 320 Barnes Drive, Suite 107, San Marcos, TX 78666.They have already been receiving requests for food and if you would like to help wrap gifts for them, the hours are: Dec 10-11 5:00pm to 8:00pm. December 12 at 5pm is the deadline to bring in wrapped toy donations. December 11, from 1:00 pm to 5:00pm, they will be sorting of toys and food, also doing the same from 8am to 12:00 noon on the 12th. Delivery of food and toys will be on December 15th from 7am to 1200 noon. If you would like to help, just go down to the Brown Santa Headquarters and tell them you want to help.

"Christmas Interclub Celebration"
Our club invites other clubs in our Division to join our club in a Christmas Interclub celebration. It will be held this Thursday, December 13 at noon at Casa Marie is located at 706 S. Guadalupe St, San Marcos, TX. Spouses are invited. The restaurant has lunch specials for $6.99 or you can order from the menu for under $15.00. Y'all come, ya hear! Dress festively (sp) in the Christmas spirit.

Thanks to our members who came out last Friday to help distribute community items to our Terrific Kids.
Around 72 children from DeZavala Elementary School were recognized last Friday by our club and items from difference businesses were handed out by 8 Kiwanis members. Those that took part were Pam Cook, Randy Cook, Chester Banks, Rhonda White, Jeanne Balkman, Doug Balkman, Charles Johnson and Del Brown. Thanks to all of you for making this a special occasion for these wonderful children.

What About the Mississippi State Flag History
The official state flag of Mississippi was adopted in 1894, replacing the older Magnolia Flag (which had been adopted in 1861, after Mississippi seceded from the union) Today's Mississippi state flag has a small Confederate Battle Flag in the upper left corner (it is also called the 'union square') There are thirteen white stars on a St. Andrew's Cross, and horizontal blue, white and red stripes.

"This is not just an old television show from the 1950's. Back in the 1880's an Irish comic/singer named Patrick Rooney created a song about Mr. Riley, who imagined what his life would be like if he hit it rich in California. The song describes his wonderful life of leisure. Soon, many who heard it identified with how nice it would be and would repeat the song, making the phrase represent having a real easy life."

2...Everyone knows that spinach is loaded in iron and makes you stronger. Just look what it has done for Popeye's career. Well Popeye was wrong. So were all those parents that stuffed it down their kid's throats. In reality, spinach has no more iron in it than any other vegetable. This spinach misconception dates back to the 1950's when a food analyst made an error while calculating the iron in spinach. His decimal place was off by one place, suggesting that spinach had ten times as much iron content than it really did.
3...I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, 'Where's the self-help section?' She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose!
