REPORTS:
Lon started out the meeting by praising Luanne for leading us so well in singing patriotic songs during our openings for meetings. We do sound rather discordant, off key and out of sync without her.
Rhonda:
Rhonda reported that the Social on Wed. night had 18-19 people present. The next Social will be April 17th. Place to be determined.
April 18th is the date for the joint birthday celebration. Celebrants are John, Rick, Rhonda, and Moe. Maybe more banana pudding, please?
The Clay Shoot could use more sponsors and teams. Rhonda brought brochures promoting the event to spread the word.
Jeanne:
Jeanne gave a reminder about S.T.E.A.M Fair at the San Marcos High School on April 6th from 10:00-1:00. Doug is bringing his 3D printer to work with the kids.
Jesse:
Jesse gave us the sad news that Felicia's sister passed away recently. Our condolences and prayers go to her and her family for their loss.
Lon:
Rick and Lon worked on the plumbing for the shower at the camp. This Saturday is a workday for basic grass trimming and clean up plus some bathroom work. If volunteering, the work starts at 9:00 a.m and will go to a little past lunch. No meal provided this time.
Kelli has almost every weekend at the camp already booked.
He reminded everyone that the board meeting is tonight at 5:00.
PROGRAM:
Kelli introduced Debby Lawrence, the current Secretary, and Linda Alexander, Treasurer, of the Bluebonnet Lion's Club. This is the third presentation in our series of programs on other service clubs in San Marcos. Debby gave us a brief history about how the San Marcos Lion's Club was begun 40 years ago. It was for men only. In 1984, a women's version was chartered called the San Marcos Lioness Club. Their founding member was Beth Morrisset also known as "Mother." In 1992, Lion's allowed women to become members and the Lioness Club was rechartered and became the Bluebonnet Lion's Club.
Debby said they have many great bakers which helped with fundraising events. The club is known for selling packages of pecans which many members of the Kiwanis Club have purchased and will do so again. Their community service is extensive including participating in Sights and Sounds, Adopt-a-Park at Ramon Lucio Park; School Fuel; PALS; encouraging literacy through reading programs and specific health screenings. Diabetic screening and eye screening for children are two of their projects plus recycling of eyeglasses. This is not an exhaustive list of all they do. They believe in varied service focused on the "Five Pillars of Service" which are Vision, Hunger, Diabetes, Cancer and Environment.
Linda noted that our clubs are in the same business with multiple organizations working in community service. The clubs are more hands on working directly with people. She and Debby both said the different service clubs are working in cooperation rather than competition. We look forward to working together on many future projects.

MARCH BOARD MEETING REPORT:
The highlights of the meeting are:
Kristi gave a presentation on the "Good Citizens" camp she and Emily Sousa have been developing for two (one week) summer sessions at the Wilson McBride Camp. After everyone read the documents she brought to the meeting and after she answered quite a few questions, the board approved the project. She is scheduled to present the program to the club on April 18th.
Jesse reported on the Membership Committee's guidelines for the process of becoming a new member, what the committee's responsibilities are for informing new members of what is required to be engaged with the club, and how new members will be helped through a mentor.
Moe reported on the Scholarship Committee's process and proposed guidelines for determining students who will be awarded scholarships. He provided a sample of the application students will need to fill out.
Community Support had two member requests for donations. One was to the Methodist Church for use of their kitchen and hall for Pancake Day and the other for Newspapers in Education Literacy sponsorship. After deliberation, the decision was made not to use the Community Support funds but instead use proceeds from Pancake Day to donate towards facility use of the church and "Club Advertising" funds for the NIE sponsorship as the club gained exposure through our logo being printed in the paper for a year.
