This newsletter will look a little differently this time due to including three photos of events.
GUESTS:
We had three guests at this meeting. Lon's wife Phyllis came along with Mary Jo from the First United Methodist Church. Santa Claus made a surprise visit to help with the Brown Santa program presentation.
 
REPORTS:
Kelli relayed information from Luanne that Chester is doing better and did well during a procedure to eliminate blockage in arteries connected to his heart. We all wish him the best and a full recovery.
 
She also said the price of the lunches at Grin's will be going up to $10+tax. Due to a lot of visiting going on there may be many who did not hear this announcement and this is also to inform those who were not at the meeting. It is still a great price for these meals.
 
Veronique raffled off two copies of the book, En casa de mi abuela, At My Grandmother's House. Veronique is the illustrator and Rebecca Bowman is the author. Kristin and Kristi are the winners.
 
Lon announced that Dennis Moore, owner of the Buggy Barn Museum in Blanco, TX, will be our speaker next week.
 
Lon had hoped the committees could meet briefly after today's meeting but decided it may be too crowded. We also had a lot of other things to get done today.
 
He said all new members, Stacie, Willie and Felicia have been approved by the Board. Moe was out of town so inductions will be planned later on when all can attend.
 
Rhonda announced that on Thursday, Dec. 7th, there will be a get-together at 6:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church activity center. It will be a covered dish event with John Roppolo providing the main dish. Please bring a covered dish that can be either a side or a dessert. White elephant gifts should be between $10-$15 dollars and be new and wrapped. Several men are needed for set up of tables and chairs starting around 5:00 pm. There will also be the need for help in putting all away after the event. Let Kelli know if you can help out.
 
A donation of $250 is being made to Adopt-a-Cop. You may also donate individually.
 
Donation to First United Methodist Church
Kelli and Kristin presented Mary Jo from the First United Methodist Church with a check for $250 designated for the Kitchen Fund at the church for our use of the activity center during our Installation Banquet on Sept. 28th.
PROGRAM: Brown Santa
Dennis Gutierrez with Santa Claus attending gave a presentation on the Hays County Brown Santa program. Dennis has been with the program for 35 years and has been the driving force in taking it from stuffed animals only to adding turkeys to where it is now with two presents given to each child, other items such as games and sports equipment given to the families, plus other food in addition to turkeys.
He went over the application process which can be found on their website.
Dennis passed out information with dates and times for the series of events necessary to prepare and deliver the gifts and food. Many volunteers are needed to do tasks from wrapping the unwrapped gift donations, sorting, and delivery logistics. Inter-Club Recap
Although Moe's write-up about the Inter-Club meeting in Marble Falls was already sent out via email, I am repeating it here with a photo Kelli took.
"Highland Lakes Kiwanis Interclub Visit:
Five members of our club visited the Highland Lakes Kiwanis Club on Tuesday.  The five members included , Lon Shell, Rhonda White, Kelli Whigham, Moe Johnson and Glen Rydyl.  The change in name from Marble Falls Kiwanis to Highland Lakes Kiwanis came about from the fact that about 80% of their members were from outside the city of Mable Falls.  The club met at the River City Grill and had a turkey and sweet potato meal.  Clubs from Kyle-Buda, Georgetown, Lampasas, Round Rock and Northwest Austin had representatives there as well.  We were they only club that had five members and a few only had one or two members.  Each club talked about their events and fund raisers and plans for the year.  Our club members came away with some new ideas for fund raisers and possible events to add to our list.  This was especially true with our interaction with the schools.  There were a number of activities that some of the clubs were doing with the schools in their city that we could very easily add to our involvement.  It was a very good interclub and one of the favorites for those members that went.  New ideas and new contacts with Kiwanis in our area were a good reason for this interclub visit.  More interclub visits are planned for our club starting in January."
UPCOMING PROGRAMS: 
Dec. 7th: Dennis Moore, owner of the Buggy Barn Museum in Blanco, TX. will make a presentation. Taking a quote from their website: "The museum is dedicated to providing a unique educational opportunity to step back in time. Expansion of the museum's collection and promoting the preservation of these modes of horse drawn transportation in history are two of the museums primary goals." Many movies have used their buggies. This should be great fun to hear. Bring your horse and buggy friends.
 
EVENTS:
Dec. 7th: Christmas Social at First United Methodist Church activity center at 6:00 pm. Bring a covered dish of either a side or dessert. Please bring a White Elephant, new, wrapped gift of a value between $10 and $15. John will provide the main dish. Kelli will provide iced tea and ice. As noted before, help is needed starting at 5:00 pm with setting up and putting away afterwards tables and chairs.
