Ted Breihan did an excellent job in bringing Jane Moore and Matt Barnes from the Food Bank to beour program last week. Jane is the Director for
Community Relations at the Food Bank and Matt is in charge of "Adopt-A-Farm" program. Matt primarily takes care of our city's Community Garden. Jane if extremely well versed on what is going on over at the Hays Couinty Food Bank, and their great need for volunteers, especially in driving vans to pick up food from places like HEB and taking them to various distributions sites. This was of great interest to th
ree or four of our members and they signed up to help. What a great job our Food Bank does for the myriad of folks in our area that cannot afford to buy food, so through the gardening program run by Matt and other volunteers, these folks will get fresh nutritional food right from the garden. Also with us at the program was Penny Slavik, daughter of club president, Del Brown, who spends quite a few hours driving the van and anything that needs to be done.
NEW MEMBER INDUCTED!
Last Thursday, March 26, RANDAL GRIZZEL was inducted into our club as our 32nd member. Randal has just recently become the new insurance/owner for Chandler Insurance Group, owned by David Chandler. David retired and Randal bought his Allstate Insurance business. David was Randal's sponsor and Gary Nelson agreed to be his mentor. Here we see Steve Furney, our Membership Chairman doing the induction. We are very proud to have Randal in our club and feel that he will be a great asset to our club. Welcome Randal.
We want to welcome back Marcie Burleson as our guest for the third time. Marcie comes as a guest of John Polk. Do you know of any guests that you might want to invite to our club meeting. Moe Johnson will be bringing Dr. Michelle Hamilton to be our club program on this coming Thursday, April 2. Dr
Hamilton is the Director of the Center for P-16 Initiatives at Tx State and holds and academic appointment as an Associate Professor in the department of Health and Human Performance. Professionally, Dr. Hamilton is an advocate of education for children who are economically disadvantaged in Central Texas. Her education initiatives include several grants to promote college
access, financial literacy and academic success to families in South Texas. She is the Project Manager
for the Caminitos Collaborative, an initiative at Hernandez Elementary School in San Marcos that works
to expand learning opportunities for Pre-Kindergarten students. Dr. Hamilton is also an Executive Board Member of United Way of Hays County and has served on several appointed committees to develop the San Marcos Youth Master Plan. Additionally she has served as Presidential Fellow and was instrumental in establishing the Center for P-16 Initiatives at TSU. Michelle's research interests include the development of motor skills for children with developmental delays and autism.

Even though these were handed out at last Thursday's meeting, let me refresh them with those who were not there.
"We are required by Kiwanis International to make a revision in our by-laws as they pertain to new member fees. To ensure that we have full disclosure of new member fees, we are required to disclose the full amount of those fees, even though we do not require new members to pay the full amount.
Assuming that the club membership present at the meeting on Thursday, April 9th ,approve the change3 by a 2/3 vote, the paragraph covering new member fedes will be changed to read as follows;
"New member enrollment fees are as follows:....Kiwanis International - $50.00.......DTexas Oklahoma District New Member lFees - Graduated from $26.50 for members joining in October to $3.00 for members joining in Sepgtember. New members will be expected to pay $40.00 of the total New Member Fees, with the San Marcos Kiwanis Club paying the balance of the total New Member Fees."

March 27, 1977........The worst accident in the history of civil aviation occurred as two Boeing 747 jets collided on the ground in the Canary Islands, resulting in 570 deaths.
March 28, 1979.........Near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Three Mile nuclear power plant accident occurred in which uranium in the reactor core overheated due to the failure of a cooling valve. A pressure relief valve then stuck causing the water level to plummet, threatening a catastrophic nuclear meltdown. The accident resulted in the release of radioactive steam into the atmosphere, and created a storm of controversy over the necessity and safety of nuclear power plants.
