Last Week's program
It's always a treat when we can get an update for what our Hays County Food Bank is doing. This wee, Denise Blok, the CEO of the Hays County Food Bank came and furnished information on all that the Food Bank is doing, to increase the importance of having such a life-saving facility at our disposal. The Food Bank does a lot more than just give out food for the needy, they also give classes on diet exercises and how to stay healthy in the food that is given. They also partner with8 other agencies, provide referrals, and how can families develop a different lifestyle through the food they eat.
They have developed a new program which partners with Kyle, to develop garden areas, taken care of by the food bank, and the city furnishing the water. As a way of saying thanks to the Food Bank, our club gave the Bank a check for $300.00. Those in the photo and members are left to right, John Roppolo, Randy Cook, Treasurer; Kelli Whigham, President, Pam Cook, Denis Blok, Rhonda White, President Elect, and Doug Balkman, Past President.
Our Program for This Coming Thursday, October 25th.
Our program this coming Thursday will be a thriller. Robert W. Starnes, who has been visiting our club for about a month now, is a serial adventurer who is best known for his expertise in counterterrorism, counterintelligence, investigations, and protective security, who has served at multiple U.S. embassies for the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service.
An expert in executive protection, Robert has protected numerous dignitaries. On multiple occasions, Robert has been called upon by heads of state to enhance their own national security. Robert led many high profile federal investigations, and was awarded the distinguish FBI Director's Commendation Award for his participation in disrupting a solicitation to commit capital murder scheme by a German mafia figure.
Robert has a wealth of personal experiences in his field, including being the author of the book,"Dictators and Diplomats" He will probably have copies to sell as well. Let's have a full house for Robert this Thursday.
K- Kids Day...…Another Induction Ceremony will be taking place at 2:00pm at DeZavala Elementary School this coming Friday, October 26. Again it will meet in the cafeteria. We need as many members to be there to help support this wonderful club. Try to get there and sign in about 1:45pm. Thanks!

What about the History of the Maine State flag?
"Maine's official flag was adopted ion 1909. The flag has a deep blue field with the state coat of arms in the center. The coat of arms pictures a farmer and a seaman (representing agriculture and maritime industries). A shield is between them, upon which is a pine tree, a moose (the state animal of Maine), green grass, a blue sky, and deep blue water. Above this is a yellow star (representing the North Star - Maine was the northernmost state when it entered the Union) and a red ribbon that reads, "DIRIGO," which means "I direct" in Latin. Below, a large blue ribbon reads. "MAINE."

October 19, 1987- - "Black Monday" occurred on Wall Street as stocks plunged a record 508 points or 22.6 percent, the largest one-day drop in stock market history.

October 22, 1962 - - President John F. Kennedy appeared on television to inform Americans of the existence of Russian missiles in Cuba. The President demanded their removal and announced a naval "quarantine" of Cuba. Six days later, the Russians announced they would remove the weapons. In return, the U.S. later removed missiles from Turkey.
October 23, 1956 - - A Hungarian uprising against Communist rule began with students and workers demonstrating in Budapest. Soviet Russians responded by sending in tanks and 58 French paratroopers.
October 24, 1945 - - The United Nations was founded.
October 25, 1854 - - During the Crimean War, the Charge of the Light Brigade occurred as Lord Cardigan led the British cavalry against the Russians at Balaclava. Of 673 British cavalrymen taking part in the charge, 272 were killed. The Charge was later immortalized in the poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
