"WE ARE ALL A LITTLE BROKEN, BUT THE LAST TIME I CHECKED, BROKEN CRAYONS STILL COLOR THE SAME!"
What a Fantastic Christmas Interclub we had last Thursdayover at Mamacitas.
What a wonderful place to hold a get together like our Christmas Interclub last Thursday. We had almost every seat in our room filled with either Kiwanis members or Kiwanis members and their significant other. At last count it was 45 or so in attendance. We had Christmas music sung by everyone and even a self developed quartet with John Polk, Charles Walts, Rob Martin and Del Brown singing three Christmas songs. Everyone ordered from the menu and even with everything that President Balkman covered, we still were able to get out a a very decent hour. It was very well planned. Thanks to all of those who had a hand in setting the dining facilities and making sure name tags were available, and everyone had a p;lace to sit, thanks to Mamacitas. By the way our own Charles Johnson won the Big Bucks for our club.

"K-Kids to hold a meeting in their classroom"
Randy Cook got a message from the K-Kids faculty sponsor, Brittany Bouzard Antonelli telling us that they will be holding a K-Kids meeting one Thursday a month usually in her classrooms at DeZavala Elementary School. Any Kiwanians that would like to sit in on these meetings are more than welcome.
The one for this month will be on Thursday afternoon, December 14 @ 1:30pm. We need to have 3-4 or more try to make these meeting.

Rob Martin will bring Charles Walts to talk about Disaster Recovery Planning. Charles served more than 26 years in the U.S Army where he retired with the rank of Colonel. Subsequent to his retirement, Charles served for seven years as the Information Technology Strategic and Disaster Recovery Planner.
In 1997, Charles became a professional business continuity and disaster recovery consultant for a large BCP/DR consulting firm. He developed more than 300 business and governmental agency continuity and disaster recovery plans for organizations in the United States, Canada, China, Japan, and Puerto Rico before becoming an independent contingency planning consultant in 2009

December 9, 1958 - - The John Birch Society was founded in the U.S. by Robert H.W. Welch as an anti-Communist political organization named for Capt. John Birch, a U.S. Army officer killed in 1945 by Chinese Communists!
December 10, 1896 - - Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel died at San Remo, Italy. His will stipulated that income from his $9 million estate be used for awards recognizing persons who have made valuable contributions to humani8ty. Nobel recipients are chosen by a committee of the Norwegian parliament. Prizes for Peace, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Economics are presented annually in a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on the anniversary of his death. Each prize is valued at about $1 million.
December 11, 1941 - - A major turning point in World War II occurred as Japan's Axis partners, Italy and Germany, both declared war on the United States. The U.S. Congress immediately declared war on them. President Roosevelt then made the defeat of Hitler the top priority, devoting nearly 90% of U.S. military resources to the war in Europe.
December 12, 1998 - - The House Judiciary Committee approved a fourth and final article of impeachment against President Bill Clinton, charging him with making false statements in his nswers to written questions from Congress!
December 13, 1545 - - The Council of Trent, summoned by Pope Paul III, met to discuss doctrinal matters including the rise of Protestantism!

1.........."A perfect game in baseball is one in which the same player pitches the entire game without allowing any player of the opposing team to reach first base ---by any means!
2..........At Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater, Florida, on June 26, 1985, organist Wilbur Snapp played "Three Blind Mice" following a call by umpire Keith O'Connor. The umpire was not amused, and saw to it that Mr. Snapp was ejected from the game.
3...........Babe Ruth hit his first major league home run on May 6, 1915. He was playing for the Boston Red Sox at the time. "The Sultan of Swat" went on to smash 714 round-trippers before re retired, from the Boston Braves in 1935!
4............Baseball's National League was born in 1876. Eight competing baseball teams met in New York City's Grand Central Hotel. The first president of the new league was Morgan Gardner Bulkeley, who later became a U.S. Senator. The eight original cities with teams were: Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Louisville and Hartford. Two of the original teams are now in the American League (Boston and New York) while Louisville and Hartford are now minor-league baseball towns.

"Why Doesn't Countdown Leader on Films Count All the Way to One?
"Remember watching the leader on sixteen-millimeter films in school, waiting for the countdown to go 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2 - whoops? It never got down to one.
Countdown leader, of course, is there to help the projectionist time when a film is going to start. Each number is timed to appear precisely one second after the other. The projectionist usually uses the number two as the cue to allow the projector light to hit the screen and begin the show. What would be number one is simply the start of the picture.
Wouldn't it work just as well to have zero represent the beginning of the film, so that frustrated audiences could have the satisfaction of counting down from ten to one? Of course it would. But as in most areas, tradition and inertia rule. As Bob Dylan once wrote, "Don't follow leaders."

The Cumberland Plateau is full of breathtaking natural beauty, but sometimes we need a view. A gorgeous, stunning view that looks out over the entire state - and isn't four hours away in east Tennessee.
Lover's Leap is a part of Rock City, an experience that's shared both by Tennessee and Georgia. Each state likes to claim it for their own, but in all reality? Did you know you could see seven states from the lookout point? Seven. States. Alphabetically, they are Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia!
It is a popular tourist spot, trafficked by thousands of people on an annual basis. Plus, the view is absolutely legendary.
