Our program for this coming Thursday will be Kathy McNiel,
Director of our local Salvation Army.
Randy Cook will be bringing the program. As everyone knows, The Salvation Army helps many, many people. They help with rent, utilities and other necessities that often come unexpected. When you give to The Salvation Army, you change the lives of thousands of children, families, and adults in desperate need. Your generosity makes a powerful difference. They operate all year long but are most noted for their Red Kettle Bell Ringing at Christmas time. Thanks to all of our bell ringers at that time. Be sure and make this meeting this week. Gary Strunk, one of our Kiwanis member is part of the SA team and was in charge of this last Christmas' bell ringers. Thanks Gary!

An email has been sent out to all our members announcing the visit of our District Governor, Colleen Biggerstaff to the Hill Country Kiwanis Clubs. She will be visiting Division 23,24 & 38 held in Temple, Texas on Saturday, February 14, 2015. It will be a day of service and fellowship! Students from our SLP's are invited to join the visit. Be sure and look at the link in the email that spells out the details of the visit. We will check this coming Thursday, February 5th how many from our club will be going to Temple. Notice also the Service Project invitation.

 What a wonderful program we had last week. David Chandler brought Dr. Anthony Cedrone and Lisa Day to speak to us about new things that are going on at CTMC . Dr. Cedrone is with the Cardiology Department and gave us a wonderful rundown on what causes heart attacks, what to do if one happens, how to prevent them to some degree. We are all mortals and subject to getting older and therefor more at risk of have heart problems as well as other debilitating illnesses. His program was extremely well received and look forward to having him back another time. Thanks David and Thank you Dr. Cedrone. |

What an absolutely exhillerating assembly, DeZavala Elementary School Friday afternoon, January 30th. The entire school body, every class, every teacher, the principal, kitchen workers...everybody, to listen to Kayla Shook, the Faculty Advisor for the K-Kids at DeZavala. She was proposing a project of magnanimous importance, sponsored by the K-Kids. It was called ",Pennies for Patients" a program developed by "The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society" and the money raised will benefit children who have leukemia or any other type of cancer. Pam Nelson, from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society explained in great detail how "Pennies for Patients" will work. All the children have to do is to begin saving their small change and put it in a special box, which will be given to them, and when that box is full, bring it back to school, and it will be emptied into another larger box. "One penny Makes a Difference" . The kids were absolutely ecstatic about doing this project, and so were the teachers, and so will be our Kiwanis Club. We only had four Kiwanians there, Del Brown, Randy Cook, Doug Balkman and Marie Brown, but they were fired up about this project too. I know we are going to hear more about this as time goes on. As a footnote: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. Their mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

The next Flag Day is Monday, February 16,,,,President's Day....We now have vinyl banners to put on our flags. We will have the box of banners available this coming Thursday, February 5th. Take however many you will need for your flag route, attach them sometime before the 19th. Most of the flags are at Ted's. We will have plastic wire ties to put them on with, and we will give you however many you need. The banners are beautiful, thanks to Moe Johnson who got them for us. They have the Kiwanis Internation Log on both sides, plus the word FLAGS PROVIDED BY: KIWANIS on both sides.

Silent Auction items are coming in, and are being given to Pam Cook who is keeping the items in her home. She is looking for help in the data processing of these items. If you can help, give her a call. Remember, collecting these items is all of our business. David Chandler is calling members to remind them to call on those they called on last year, but don't limit it just to just those, reach out to new areas too. Remember all auction items should have the auction form fully filled out, and don't forget to put dollar value on them. The deadline for these auction items has been set for Thursday, February 19. Bring your items to club meeting and give them to Pam.

LOOKING FOR PAST PRESIDENTS....
We are trying to update our list of past presidents and those presidents that went on to become Lt. Governors. We have names of presidents from 1923 - 1994. We are blanked out with the following dates 1995,1996,1997,1998,1999,2000,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005. Maybe there were some repeat presidents during this period. We would be very grateful if we could fill in all of the blanks. Help me out, please!
