OUR UPCOMING PROGRAM FOR THIS THURSDAY
We are doing a bit of switchy, switchy on our program this coming Thursday. Instead of Frederick Case, Lon Shell is bringing a power point presentation on some ideas he has regarding how our club can best benefit our community with some before mentioned projects around Bonham Pre-Kindergarten School. That is just one project...I think he has some other things on his mind, so knowing Long, you don't want to miss this. If you do, you are likel y to get punished with a fresh, green stalk of "B - - - - - - -! Know what I mean?

.JPG)  David Smith and Jim Swisher, both from the San Marcos Hays County EMS came to our club last Thursday and gave us a monumental overview of what's going on in our city and county with regards to our Emergency Medical Service. David, as of last June, 2015, took over the job of Chief and Executive Director of SMHS EMS. He presented a wide overview of where our EMS services have been in the past, and where he would like to see it expanding in the future. The need for Emergency assistance is getting bigger and bigger, and as we expand our territory, so we will need to expand our services, not to just keep up, but to provide the best and overall emergency assistance that is possible. That will take extra funding, but what is a person's health and welfare worth. We had 21 members attending last Thursday, and everyone was very impressed with the future ideas that David Smith and others like him have for the future of the EMS. If you missed this program, you missed a good one! Thanks to Charles Johnson for bringing these two men to Kiwanis.

Glen Rydl, our club secretary is urging all members of our club to renew their Criminal Background Status. Every member must do this themselves, the club is not going to do it. CBI request is now online ONLY!

Click on Forms and Reports and scroll down to Background Checks The top two listings are for CBI's Click on the online button to access the form. Do not use any other form than this one.We must renew these checks every two years. They are no longer printing CBI cards. DON'T NEGLECT TO DO THIS! EVERY KIWANIS MEMBER MUST HAVE THIS DONE!

HISTORICAL FACTS FROM JANUARY 8TH TO JANUARY 14TH
January 8, 1815........The Battle of New Orleans occurred as General Andrew Jackson and American troops defended themselves against a British attack, inflicting over 2,000 casualties. Both sides in this battle were unaware that peace had been declared two weeks earlier with the the signing of the Treaty of Ghent ending the War of 1812.
January 9, 1969 .............With the first blast of dynamite, construction work began on the Aswan High Dam across the Nile River in southern Egypt. One third of the projects' billion-dollar cost was underwritten by Soviet Russia. The dam created Lake Nasser, one of the world's largest reservoirs, at nearly 2,000 square miles and irrigated over 100,000 acres of surrounding desert. The dam was opened in January of 1971 by President Anwar Sadat of Egypt and President Nikolai Podgorny of the Soviet Union.
January 10, 1920.......... The first League of Nations officially came into existence with the goal of resolving international disputes, reducing armaments, and preventing future wars. The first assembly gathered in Geneva ten months later with 41 nations represented. More than 20 nations later joined, however the U.S. did not join due to a lack of support for the League in Congress.
January 11, 1964...........The U.S. Surgeon General declared cigarettes may be hazardous to health, the first such official government report.
January 12, 1932...........Hattie W. Caraway, a Democrat from Arkansas, was appointed to the U.S. Senate to fill the term, of her deceased husband. Later ion the year, she became the first woman elected to the Senate.
January 13, 1990...........Douglas Wilder of Virginia became the first African American governor in the U.S. as he took the oath of office in Richmond.
January 14-23, 1943...........President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill met at Casablanca in Morocco to work out strategy during World War II.
