MARCH 13, 1943.....A plot to kill Hitler by German army officers failed as a bomb planted aboard his plane failed to explode due to a faulty detonator.
MARCH 14, 1879.....Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany. His theory of relativity led to new ways of thinking about time, space, matter and energy. Believing the Nazis might develop an atomic bomb, he warned President Roosevelt and urged the developed of the U.S. Atomic bomb.
MARCH 15, 44 B.C........Julius Caesar was assassinated in the Senate chamber in Rome by Brutus and fellow conspirators.
MARCH 16, 1968............During the Vietnam War, the My Lai Massacre occurred as American soldiers of Charlie Company murdered 504 Vietnamese men, women and children. Twenty-five U.S. Army officers were later charged with complicity in the massacre and subsequent cover up, but only one was convicted and later pardoned by President Nixon.
MARCH 17........Celebrated as Saint Patrick's Day commemorating the patron saint of ireland.
MARCH 17, 1776.........Early in the American Revolution War, the British completed their evacuation of Boston following a successfuyl siege conducted Patriots. The event is still commemorated in Boston as Evacuation Day.

  BOY SCOUT APPRECIATION LUNCHEON was very well attended last Tuesday, March 10. There were many elected officials there, representing their great support for this wonderful organization. Cub Scouts brought in the flag and posted them for the Pledge of Allegiance....very professional. The recipient for the Scouting Award was Mark Eads, Superintendent of San Marcos CISD. We had six from our club present: Pam Cook, Randy Cook, Del Brown, Marie Brown, Rob Martin and Ted Briehan. There were donor cards handed and we hope that everyone donated toward this very important organization that stands for so many ideals for our youth, and adults. |

LAST WEEKS PROGRAM
We want to thank Steve Furney for bringing a fresh new view with regards to the subject of alcohol, smoking prevention, energy drinks and dietary supplements. He brought Dr. Ron Williams from the Department of Health and Human Performance where Steve is also a professor. Ron brought out some new ideas based on his research as to what we are consuming in our bodies may not be the best thing for us. He also had some very interesting thoughts about Vape smoking. It was an excellent program. Thanks Steve and Ron.

CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED ON FEBRUARY 26TH? Can you believe that we had 99.99% of our club working together, many doing tasks that were new to them, I know we have mentioned this before, but you can be so proud of yourselves for the way you all rallied around, selling tickets, bringing in auction items and in general telling the community how much we appreciated their eating our pancakes and bidding on our auction items, all for the good of the kids and youth in our community. We served 356 persons in both serving periods, and.....get this....the total money figure to date is $9,182.00. If you still have ticket money that you haven't turned in, please turn it in, so we can close the books on a very, very successful event. You are to be congratulated!

 Last Saturday, March 14, 2015, our District Governor , Colleen Biggerstaff attended the South Texas Visit and Mid
Year Conference held in the Luby's San Antonio downtown office and restaurant. This conference was hosted by Divisions 4, 5, 6, & 11. It was a well attended event with plenty of District officials and lots of Lt. Governors and past Lt Governors. It was a great opportunity for our new Governor to view just what is going on throughout the district. Those who attended from our club were Randy Cook, John Polk, Rob Martin, Frederick Case & Del Brown. There were two sessions of different forums presented. In the morning, there was a forum on the Texas-Oklahoma Education and Kiwanis Kollege; One on Kiwanis Internation Foundation, one on The Formula and one on K-Kids and Builder's Club. In the afternoon, the following forums were presented: Upcoming Trustee Proposal....Meet the Candidates....Risk Management /Youth Protection & Key Club /Circle K organization.
Our own Lt Governor, Rob Martin from the San Marcos Club but Lt. Governor over Division 38, made a special presentation to Governor Biggerstaff. It was a antique clock, refurbished by Rob as a token from Division 38 in observing Kiwanis's 100th Anniversary. Even though it was a token of gratiude given on behalf Division 38, Rob, a member of the San Marcos Club originated the idea in his home club.
