 A MOOSE STORY
"Three leading economists took a small plane to the wilderness in northern Canada to hunt moose over the weekend. The last thing the pilot said was, remember this is a very small plane and you will only be able to bring ONE moose back.
But of course, they killed one each and come Sunday, they talked the pilot into letting them bring three dead moose onboard. So just after takeoff, the plane stalled and crashed. In the wreckage, one of the economists woke up, looked around and said. "Where in tarnation are we?" "Oh just about a hundred yards east of the place where we crashed last year."

  It is always a real pleasure to have Susan Smith from our San Marcos Public Library. She was Glen Rydl's program last Thursday and as usual, Susan said things are really hopping over at the library. Some of the statistics she gave our club were: (1) Number of reading certificates earned = 3,911. (2) Number of Children's reading logs w/ 792 children participating - 2,994. (3)Teen/Adult reading logs w/ 102 teens and 111 adults participating = 917. (4) Number of total readers earning at least one certificate = 1005.( This came to a 24% increase of children's reading over last year). This was a great summer filled with 123 events. (1) Storytimes (3 sessions) w/2,765 participants.
(2) Puppet Shows(12 sessions) w/1,033 participants. (3) Arts & Crafts (13 sessions) w/1,432 participants. Awesome activities & Manga Club - (18 sessions) with 408 participants. Other activities with 42 sessions, having 4.401 participants. Finally, JUMP Kick-Off & Friday Night Party Finale (2 sessions) for a total of 1,039 participants.
That comes to a total attendance at SRP Events, 11,078 participants which is a 41% increase in event attendance & 16% increase in number of events. This was fantastic.
Of course another reason for Susan to come to our meeting was to receive our annual support check of $2500.00 which she always puts to good use. This check was presented by Glen Rydl.

It was another great delight to present another Walter Zeller Award, this time the award goes to Marie Brown, wife of our president this year. The award was presented to her by our Lt Governor, Rob Martin. Marie purchased her Zeller in memory of her cousin, Carolyn Timmons, who passed away on Christmas Eve, 2014. As everyone should know by now, the Zeller award is another way in which our club can help and support the Eliminate Project in ridding Maternal Neonatal Tetanus for good from the face of the earth. The picture of the medallion is to the right and it shows that our club is serious about doing our part in ridding the world of this terrible disease. Who might be next. Thank you Marie.

  UPCOMING PROGRAM, THURSDAY, JUNE 4TH, 2015
Randle Grizzle is bringing the program this coming Thursday. It will be Mark Jones, Hays County Commissioner, Princinct 2.
As a two term trustee and vicepresident of the Hays County CISD School Board, Mark Jones is responsible for leading one of Hays Count's largest employers and managing a budget in excess of $100 million.
When first elected in 2005, Mark pledged to bring strong leadership to a school district with overcrowded schools and burdensome growing pains. Under Mark's leadership and fiscdal discipline, the school district opened four new schools and has two more under construction....without raising taxes.
Before his election to the school board, the Hays County Commissioners Court appointed Mark to the Board of Directors of the Plum Creek Conservation District spanning two counties. With his background in local water management, Mark continues to advocate for long-term solutions to Hays County's water needs.
Mark's priorities inmclude meetsing Hays County's long term transportation and water needs, strengthening the local economy, bringing foresight and fiscal discipline to county government, and protecting the quality of life that makes the Buda/Kyle community a great place to live and raise a family.
Mark is married to Kerri, his wife of 28 years. they have three children: Clayton, Kayla, and McKenzie.

 HISTORICAL EVENTS THAT HAPPENED THE WEEK OF JUNE 1, 2015
June 1, 1801.......Founder of Utah and patriarch of the Mormon church Brigham Young was born in Whitingham, Vermont. Called the "American Moses", he led thousands of religious followers across the wilderness to settle over 300 towns in the West, including Salt Lake City, Utah.
June 2, 1935.........Baseball great Babe Ruth played his last game.
June 2, 1941........Baseball great Lou Gehrig died in New York.
June 3, 1937........The Duke of Windsor married Wallis Warfield Simpson in Monts, France. As King Edward VIII, h8e had abdicated the British throne in December of 1936 amid tremendous controversy to marry Simpson, an American who had been divorced. Following the wedding, the couple lived in France and had minimal contact with the British Royal family. The Duke died in Paris on May 28, 1972, and was buried near Windsor Castle in England.
June 4, 1944..........During World War II in Europe, Rome was liberated by the U,S, Fifth Army, led by General Mark Clark. Rome had been declared an open city by German Field Marshal Albert Kesselring amid Alliwed concerns might stage a Stalingrad-style defense that would devastate the historic 'Eternal city'
June 5, 1968.........Robert F. Kennedy, was shot and mortally wounded while leaving the Hotel Ambassador in Los Angeles. The shooting occurred after a celebration of Kennedy's victory in the Californian presidential primary. He died at 1:44 a.m., June 6th, at age 42, leaving behind his wife Ethel and eleven children, the last one born after his death.
