THANKSGIVING INTERCLUB
Just recently, Marble Falls held their annual Thanksgiving meal. Those who went from our club were: Chester Banks,Charles Walts,John Polk, and Glen Rydl.
Our Upcoming Christmas Party
Don't forget this coming Wednesday, December 11th is our Club's Christmas Party held at The Grist Mill in Gruen. There was a sign up sheet last week and it looks like we will have a good crowd. We all need to be there BY 6:30PM.
Terrific Kids Function this coming Friday, December 13, at 1:45pm.
Keep in mind, we will need about 10 individuals over at DeZavala Elementary this coming Friday, December 13 to help hand out 'goodies" from our community.
This is such an important event, both for the children, but their parents and grandparents as well. Let's have a goodly number there to help make this event a special one for them. Remember be at the school around 1:45pm on Friday, and be ready to begin at 2:00pm.

December 6,1877 - - At his laboratory in West Orange, New Jersey, Thomas Edison spoke the children's verse 'Mary had a Little Lamb... while demonstrating his newly invented phonograph which a utilized a revolving cylinder wrapped in tinfoil to record sounds.
December 7, 1941 - - The U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, was attacked by nearly 200 Japanese aircraft in a raid that lasted just over one hour and left hearly 3,000 Americans dead.
December 8, 1940 - - During the Blitz, the House of Commons and Tower of London were seriously damaged amid an overnight air raid by German bombers on London.
December 9, 1958 - - The John Birch Society was founded in the U.S. by Robert H.W. Welch as an anti-Communist political organization named for Capt. John Birch, a U.S. Army officer killed in 1945 by Chinese Communists.
December 10, 1896 - - Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel died at San Remo, Italy. His will stipulated that income from his $9 million estate be used for awards recognizing persons who have made valuable contributions to humanity. Nobel recipients are chosen by a committee of the Norwegian parliament. Prizes for Peace. Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Economics are presented annually in a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on the anniversary of his death. Each prize is valued at about $1 million.
December 11, 1901 - - The first transatlantic radio signal was transmitted by Guglielmo Marconi from Cornwall. England, to St. John's, Newfoundland.
December 12, 1870 - - Joseph Hayne Rainey of Georgetown, South Carolina, became the first African American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. He filled a seat which had been declared vacant by the House and served until 1879.
"How did 'Montana' get it's name?
"Montana got its name from the Spanish form of a Latin word meaning 'mountainous.' The name was chosen in 1888 by Representative J.M. Ashley of Ohio because of the region's high, snowy peaks. It became the 41st state."

"Pioneers who settled at the edge of both the Willamette and the Deschuters national forests named their town Sisters in 1810 after three nearby mountain peaks, Faith, Hope & Charity. Brothers was named 30 years later because a family with six sons settled this land near Sisters.
Know Your Presidents . .Grover Cleveland
"Grover Cleveland, who served as the 22nd and 24th U.S. President, was known as a political reformer. He is the only president to date who served two nonconsecutive terms, and also the only president to win election during the period of Republican domination of the White House that stretched from Abraham Lincoln's (1809-65) election in 1860 to the end of William Howard Taft's (1857-1930) term in 1913. He was also called the Buffalo Sheriff because he was the sheriff of Erie County, NY, with his main office in Buffalo. Others called him the People's President because he consistently advocated policies that served the interests of the people."
""During a lecture for medical students, the professor listed as the two best qualities of a doctor, the ability to conquer revulsion and the need for keen powers of observation. He illustrated this by stirring a messy substance with his finger and then licking his finger clean. Then he called a student to the front and made him do the same.
Afterward the professor remarked, 'You conquered your revulsion, but your powers of observation are not very good. I stirred with my forefinger, but I licked my middle finger."
"Why Do We Call Somewhere 'Guy'?
"Guy as a slang term for a man was not always as neutral as it is now. The word goes back to the famous Gunpowder Plot against the English Parliament in 1605. The conspirators, in retaliation against the oppression of Roman Catholics in Britain, placed 36 barrels of gunpowder in the basements of the Parliament buildings, planning to set them off on November 5, the day the king opened Parliament. But when Guy Fawkes went into the cellar to light the fuse, he was captured. The plot had become too widely known, and the conspiracy was revealed. November 5 became an English holiday, Guy Fawkes Day, celebrating the preservation of the government/ Effigies of Fawkes were paraded through the streets and burned in huge bonfires. Celebrants customarily dressed in costumes similar to American Halloween costumes. A 'guy' first meant any effigy, such as that of Guy Fawkes. Later it came to mean any odd-looking person. Over time, the term was used for 'good guys' as well as 'bad guys' until it became American slang for any man or group of people 'you guys'"
