Sam Brannon brought a guest with him to assists him in the program. His name was David Crowell. We welcome you David, and appreciated your input in conjunction with Sam's program.
Sam Brannon brought a very Eye Opening program Thursday.
Sam Brannon and Morris Crowell shared with our club some startling facts and figures about our county's fast growing debt and taxation problems. Sam keeps in touch with what our city and community are deliberating on, and he is following the debt and bond packages very closely. He said we can sign up at these two online source for local policy and politics - www.hayscr.com to be notified when they meet on these topics, and www.haysrightpac.com to be notified when they publish a new article.
Well, what do you know! The big bucks went to Andrew Gary. He didn't keep it though, it went back to the club. Congratulations, Andrew.
Thanks to Frederick Case, we have a new patch to put on our banner, distributed at this year's International Convention and Frederick attended this convention held in Toronto, Canada. Thanks Frederick. It will be affixed to our banner quickly.

Hill Country Region (Divisions 23, 24, 38) will have 'Club Leadership Education' on July 23, 2016, from 9-4 at First United Methodist Church in Round Rock. Seems like this is about the most central and accessible place to hold these things.
This is for new Presidents, Secretaries, (and there will be a break out session for them) and any other leaders in your club. There is an extensive agenda, as evidenced by the long time scheduled. This would also be great for Membership Chairs as well.
EVERY CLUB should plan to have someone attend this!
AND THEN....... Texas Oklahoma Convention in Allen, Texas, August 12-14, details and registration online. Make sure your delegates are registered! (We did a great job of having clubs represented at the Called Convention in Garland last month!
"ROB'S CORNER"...A Word from Our Region 10 Trustee
A long range planning committee formed by our district spent two years in developing a plan to reorganize the management of the T/O District. The charge to this group was to develop a program to reverse the declining membership trend and identify related initiatives.
The results of their efforts was presented at our annual convention. A vote was conducted and adopted by the attending representative of local clubs within the Texas Oklahoma District.
The major element was to establish a Board consisting of ten members. This board resulted in reducing the Governor's direct management staff. Prior to this implementation his supervising staff consisted of a LT. Governors Board of 39 members in addition to a similar number of Chairs for functional areas within Kiwanis.
The new management structure will relieve the Lt. Governors from their Annual Board duties. This change is designed to change the role of Lt. Governors to that of more effective communication between the District and local clubs also will enable them to function as a consultant and mentor for those clubs in areas such as new club development, membership growth and provide individual assistance to clubs within his/her division. Local Kiwanis Clubs will benefit from the newly established committees in each region. The Lt. Governors will become a key member of committees established at the region level. These committees are being another result of the new management plan. They will consist of elected officers within their region and volunteers from the local clubs of that Region.
After it's approval, the next step in implementing the Trustee Management System was to identify the individuals who would be selected as their inaugural Trustee. This was to initiated at the 2015 Annual Conference. Nominations were made by clubs from each region and a majority agreement required to select their Regional nominee. Region 10 consists of Divisions 23 (Waco area); 24 (Austin area) and 38 (San Marcos area. This region was later identified as the Hill Country Region. Rob Martin of the San Marcos club was selected as the nominee to represent Region 10. On the final day of the Conference, the nominations were confirmed as 2015-2016 Trustee for their individual Regions.
More information on the progress of the new Trustee Management System in Texas will be forthcoming in future Club Newsletters.
"Program for this Coming Thursday, July 14th"
Lon Shell will be bringing the program this coming Thursday and as usual, it will be a 'good-un'. He is going to present a power point on the Junior Agricultural Mechanics (JAM) Project Show held each FEB in conjunction with the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. This show is for all Texas FFA and 4-H student members. This last year's JAM, there were 927 entries (projects), 236 schools - clubs and 1220 Exhibitors. Approximately thirty $12,000 scholarships were given to the winners. In addition to scholarships, exhibitors receive premium money along with approximately $250,000 worth of merchandise.
The primary goals of JAM are: (1) Encourage, facilitate and reward learning and the development of skills through the design, construction and exhibition of agricultural projects and/or Tractor Restoration. (2) Showcase the outstanding leadership technical abilities and accomplishments of Texas youth.
Presentation will emphasize the educational emphasis part of the show and will identify criteria judges use in evaluating not only the project but also the exhibitor.
Lon will also show some slides of the 2016 Class and Division winners, including Reserve and Grand Champion.
Lon will also show a short history of the show.
Lon says that he has made a similar presentation in the past at Kiwanis, but this presentation will bring up to date with more detail on why we are so excited about the exhibitors gains in learning in skills, knowledge and leadership.
Let's have a good turnout for this presentation. We have been missing several members lately, so hope that you can get back to attending your weekly meetings.

1: Francis Breihan was taken to CTMC last Tuesday morning with trouble breathing and heart irregularity. After some excellent medical care and some delicate procedures, they got her heart back into sync, and she is currently resting at home.
2. Good news on Sherry Nelson. She had a rather complex bout of pneumonia and was in several medical facilities trying to stabilize her, but she is progressing farirly well and will probably come home tomorrow (Monday). She will need a walker for awhile.
3. Glen Rydl is still doing a bit of hobbling around since he had an airconditioner fall on his foot.
