This meeting did not go as originally planned. However, Rick was able to improvise and filled up the hour.

We were missing a number of members as Charles, Rhonda, Kelli, Beverly and Kristin attended the Friends of Scouting Luncheon. It was noted at our meeting that that luncheon is an important one so it was good we had representation there. More details later in this newsletter are provided by Kelli.

 

There was no induction for Stacie, again. Jesse was to do the honors but came down with covid. Stacie was around him so that was that.

 

Rick announced that there is no program today due to the presenter not being able to attend.

He noted that the next Board meeting is next Thursday, Feb. 15th at Sunflower Bank at 5:00 pm.

Several guessed accurately the "Who and what" photo quiz from the last newsletter. Kelli and Pam submitted guesses via email responses to the newsletter. Much better participation than in the first quiz.

The next day flags will be displayed is Feb. 19th, Presidents Day. Those who participate can meet, after putting up the flags, at the Cafe on the Square for breakfast.

 

The rest of the meeting was a combination of Pancake Day details and a selection of history of the club that Rick had found on the San Marcos Kiwanis Club website. 

Doug inventoried our warehouse storage for Pancake Day equipment and found it all needs a good cleaning. There was discussion on the best approach for getting that done in a timely manner. 

There have been recommendations to get the meal started at 7:30 am.

The committee is currently planning meals for 250.

John Roppolo's son has written a book. There was discussion about his doing a book signing at the Pancake meal and possibly having copies of his book available for purchase.

Feb. 22nd is the deadline for ads to be submitted to put on placemats. So far, Rick says we are up to $1000 in revenue.

The radio station KZSM will mention Pancake Day on air to let the public know when and where.

 

History lessons from Rick:

Rick said the first Pancade Supper was in 1939 with tickets being 25 cents each.

They had silent auctions whick were quite successful.

 

He also went over a small part of the Wilson McBride camp history. The land was purchased for $400. Boy and Girl Scout youth were the original users. The camp earned the nickname Camp Tick.

Kelli's report on the Friends of Scouting Luncheon: 

Charles Johnson, Kristin Wingard, Beverly Crumley, Rhonda White and Kelli Whigham attended the Friends of Scouting Luncheon on Thursday.  This was a fundraiser in benefit of the Capitol Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  Each year they honor a community leader and raise funds at the same time.  This year’s honoree was Ellen Ault.  Ellen has been involved in scouting many years.  Her brother and her sons were scouts.  So she and her mother were scout mom’s and leaders and have even attended world jamboree.  The event Thursday raised over $55,000. Congratulations to Ellen!

I have to include a short report on the Kyle 4-H Fancy Feathers event to which our club gave a donation. Kristi and Jennifer volunteered to help out on Saturday by selling the various raffle tickets. Kristi's daughter Holly, who is Miss United States Agriculture, wore her sash and crown and did her volunteer work by keeping the chickens' water cups full and selling tickets for the "Chicken Poop Bingo" competition. It was a fun and hilarious event with some serious competition. The 4-H kids stayed very involved in taking care of all the moving parts to pull the event off.
