We had one guest who has been a frequent one, Joseph Roppolo. Good to see him again.
REPORTS:
Lon:
Lon conveyed the "Thank you" from Jonathan Roppolo, brother of Joseph and son of member John, for his opportunity to have a book signing of his book Journey Through the Lens at the Pancake Day event. This book has lovely photographs taken by Jonathan with timeless quotes going with each picture. Congratulations, Jonathan, on this great accomplishment.
Lon also gave his "thanks" to Jesse for arranging for the photo booth that was a hit at Pancake Day. I took a number of photos of members enjoying a run at it. Well, it is hard to tell if Lon actually enjoyed it. Stacie and Jesse definitely did. Many high school volunteers helped with that event.
Rick:
Rick gave an approximate accounting of the Pancake Day event. The income from placemat ads and donations come to $3350 with a net of $1879 after expenses. There is a guest count of 178. The committee had planned for 200 so there was plenty of food. The balance of it was given to the Fire Station located on Hunter Rd. where it was happily accepted.

Rick thanked all of the high school volunteers, Medical Explorers, university students and everyone from the club who turned up to help. Special note was given to the Texas State track team and their coach Randal Grizzle for going above and beyond by knocking down and putting away the tables and chairs, helping with loading up trucks to take supplies back to the warehouse and driving to the warehouse to unload supplies.
Moe and his wife Diane covered the costs for their talented son, musician Adam Johnson, who provided just the right tone for the event.
KZSM Radio, the speakers for today, advertised the Pancake Day on the radio.
Rick mentioned that Randal Grizzle, Texas State coach for the Track and Field team, wondered if any Kiwanis members would like to volunteer to help at their next event.

Shelly O'Donnell from "Teacher Re-use," who spoke at one of our meetings, is asking for volunteers. She said several members had mentioned wanting to help after her presentation. The link to sign up is included here.

PROGRAM:
Jesse introduced this meeting's speakers Rob Roark, Station Manager, and Jeremy Garrett, President of the Board for KZSM Radio San Marcos at 106.1 FM.
The station is located in downtown San Marcos which is a fitting location because their focus is to build community by promoting local talent and keeping the community up-to-date on what is happening. Rob Roark said they strive to entertain, enlighten and engage the community. They welcome local community to give the radio station information about what is going on. The station programming is eclectic having talk shows and music with live shows, encores and recorded ones. The schedule can be found online. One of the ways they promote musical talent is to have singer songwriters interviewed during a live broadcast and have them play some of their music. The station is online as well as on the radio so is accessible worldwide.
Jeremy noted that the younger generation does not understand the power of community radio. He says it is the nexus of organizations in San Marcos. Here is hoping for their continuous and growing success in their endeavor.
