 REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.  Veteran's Day Parade- The parade was well attended, and we had a good turnout of Kiwanis members.  The kids seemed to enjoy participating in the bike and scooter brigade, and there were about 30 kids that signed up for the bicycle giveaway!  Lon Shell loaned one of his old tractors, and it did a wonderful job of pulling the float, even though it stalled after the route was completed.

2.  McBride Wilson Kiwanis Camp- Lon Shell has been doing a great job with the camp's upkeep and appearance.  He announced that there will not be a workday on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, previously scheduled, as a scout has plans to upgrade and improve the appearance of the camp showers as his Eagle Scout project.

3.  K-Kids- Kristi Dane attended the K-Kids meeting, this past week, at Hernandez, and stated that it was a lot of fun!  She helped the club go through the steps of planning a fundraiser, and the club has decided on a fundraiser to help the animal shelter, through the selling of hot chocolate.  The K-Kids plan to create flyers to help promote their sale.

4.  Pumpkin Dash- as previously mentioned in last week's newsletter, the 5K was a great success!  Update:  all sponsorship money has been received except for one sponsor.  Taking that in account, the club was able to make about $6100, and should go up, slightly, once all sponsorship has been received.

5.  Club Dues- Willie Garza announced that he has received about 2/3's of the club dues, to date.  If you have not paid these yet, touch base with Willie, and he will get you checked off.

6.  Pancakes with Santa- An update on the event planning was shared by Rick Pickering.  Willie Garza has secured several sponsors, already, for our ad placemats, and Rick passed out several sponsorship letters with the QR code, for people to reach out to other businesses, including those that donated last year.  Glenn Rydl volunteered to contact flag route patrons to see if they would be interested in sponsoring.

Rick also shared that we will be serving pancakes from 7:30-11:30, and Santa will make an appearance from 8:30-11:00.

PROGRAM:

Nancy Brown is the Director of the Art League of San Marcos

Nancy Brown was able to revisit our club with another wonderful program on Art League in San Marcos, and focused her discussion on Art Scared, which is sponsored by the Art League.  Nancy shared a slideshow of some of the artwork done by kids, on windows around the downtown square. She explained that this was the 6th year that the Art League was able to offer this event.

Art Scared is an event in which kids of all ages are assigned a certain window around the downtown square and given acrylic paint to create a Halloween masterpiece.  1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are then awarded for the kid's finished artwork, by grade level (Elementary, Middle School, and High School).  The only requirement for participation is that a parent or other adult be present but may not help with the painting.

Nancy Brown explained that the monetary donation previously given by the San Marcos Kiwanis Club will be used to hire a cleanup crew that will clean off the windows, after they have been on display for several weeks.

This event is "very community oriented" stated Nancy.  Next year, the Art Scared event will be scheduled for Oct. 24, 2026, pending weather forecasts.  Nancy finished her presentation explaining that volunteers are always welcome, and in the past, she has welcomed volunteers from Texas State and from the Art League members.

HUMOR AND MUSING:

Did you know:  Leonardo da Vinci was an accomplished musician and had a good singing voice.  He played the lyre and flute, and possibly wrote music.  Aside from painting, he was very interested in nature and science.  It is thought that a stroke left his right hand paralyzed.

How do you catch a squirrel who loves to paint?  Climb a tree and act like a canvas.

What do you call a cat who can paint?  a paw-casso
