REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

I'm running a little bit behind, this week, but better late than never!

1.  Christi Murillo, our planned program on Marketing and Outreach, was unable to attend, but has agreed to come back and present the program.  As soon as Jennifer gets a secured date, we will let you know.

2.  San Marcos Daily Record: Last meeting, a suggestion was made to start posting information in the San Marcos Daily Record Newspaper about who the Kiwanis are, and what kind of things we do for the community.  Most people know very little about how important the Kiwanis Club is to our community.  In fact, I asked someone, one day if they had heard about the Kiwanis, and the reply was that we were the ones that rode scooters in parades.  We definitely need to clarify our role.  Problem is that we have no one to prepare and turn in the article to the local newspaper, to be published.  Would you consider volunteering to head this up?  Great way to start bringing new members!

3.  Kiwanis Signature Project:  Jennifer Richmond, Kristi Dame, and Emily Sousa worked hard to successfully fill out and submit an entry, into the Kiwanis International Signature Project, sharing the uniqueness that our club has reached out, and changed the lives of many children, through the availability of the McBride Kiwanis Camp.  Thank you, Jennifer, Kristi, and Emily.  This was an endeavor, over and beyond.

4.  Mardi Gras Casino Night:  Peter Baen, from the Rotary Club, has extended an invitation, to our club, to either sponsor or buy a table for 8, at $500., for their annual Mardi Gras Casino Night.  This event is one of their fundraisers, and I know we have had members attend, in the past, and have had a really great time.  This event will be happening on Feb. 13, 2026, from 6:30-10:00 pm, and will take place at the Centex Wing Commemorative Air Force Museum.

5.  Member Survey:  Jennifer Richmond sent out a club survey, via email, to each member.  She will also have hard copies at the meeting, for members to fill out.  These surveys are important because they will help shape the priorities, activities, and future goals of the club.  These surveys will also give Jennifer an understanding of what isn't working, and how it can be improved.  Currently, she has only received 6 surveys.

6.  Future Programs:  The club is in need of program ideas for 2026.  Right now, there are not many on the schedule.  If you know someone that would be willing to sign up, please let Jennifer know.

HUMOR AND MUSING:

The Groundhog Day tradition comes from German immigrants who originally used hedgehogs to predict the weather.  On February 2, 1887, Groundhog Day, featuring a rodent meteorologist, is celebrated for the first time at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.  If the groundhog sees its shadow, it means six more weeks of winter.
If the groundhog does not see its shadow, it means spring will come early.
Bad news!  The groundhog saw his shadow!

  1. How do groundhogs know how many trees they’ve chewed?
    They keep a log.
