An elderly Zuni man is having serious problems sleeping. He falls asleep fine every night, but tosses and turns and eventually is woken up halfway through the night by disturbing dreams. The insomnia is taking a toll on his health and driving his wife crazy too. She persuades him to see his GP. The doctor asks him the problem, what is specifically about these dreams that is so disturbing that he can't sleep? The fellow says, well, the dreams are just so surreal - I dream I'm an inanimate object, it's so weird that I'm up worried about it all night. One night I dream I'm a wigwam, the next night a teepee - wigwam, teepee, wigwam,teepee." Doctor mulls it over, then says 'you know, I've read an article in a recent APA journal about this and I think I know what's wrong with you - you're just too tense!" (You know....two tents!)

By now most of our members know that our fellow club member and Lt. Gov for Division 38, Rob Martin had to be rushed to CTMC with heart pain, and then rushed to Austin Heart Hospital to have open heart surgery on December 26. He successfully underwent quadruple bypass. He will be there approximately one week. No visitors for three days. The other clubs in our division have also been notified, so keep Rob and Judy in your prayers
Also remember Marie Brown, wife of Del Brown,in your prayers. Her cousin, Carolyn Timmons, who was just like a sister to Marie passed away on Christmas Eve after a long battle with cancer. The service will be in San Angelo, Texas, Monday, December 29 at 1:00pm in the Johnson Funeral Home in San Angelo. Del will be conducting the service.
The next program will be on Thursday, January 8, 2015 (a brand new year!). Glen Rydl will be bringing Richard Parrish, from the A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Knowing Glen's interest in agriculture, plants, flowers, and other natural resources, this should be a great program. Let's have a goo turnout for the first program of the new year. Baby New Year Tradition.....The tradition of using a baby to signify the New Year was started around 600 B.C. by the ancient Greeks, who, art the start of a year would carry a baby around in a basket. The purpose of it
was to honour Dionysius, the God of Fertility and symbolized his annual rebirth.
Eating Noodles..... Late on the evening of Decem ber 31st, people from Japan might eat a bowl of buckwheat noodles called "toshikoshisoba" (year crossing noodles) and listen for the sound of the Buddhist temple bells, which are rung 108 times at midnight. The sound of these bells is said to purify the listeners of the 108 sins or evil passions that 'plague every human being'
Gifts in Shoes..... In Greece, children leave their shoes by the fireside on New Year's Day, which, incidentally, is also the Festival of Saint Basil in Greece, with the hope that Saint Basil, who was famous for his kindness will come and fill their shoes with gifts.
Carrying a suitcase.....In Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, and Mexico, those with hopes of traveling in the New Year carry a suitcase around the house at midnight. Some people may even carry it around the block to ensure traveling at greater distances.
American Resolutions..... We learn that 40%-45% of American adults make one or more New Year's resolutions each year. These range from debt reduction to giving up bad habits. There will be a special board meeting immediately following the program on January 8th. The main topic is to discuss and to vote on whether our club wants to be a Model club this year. We can do it, I'm sure. We need a quorum in order to do any business. We will explain what a Model Club, but I can say that it all has to do with the Eliminate Project, and we know how important that is to our club, Division, District and International of Kiwanis. If the Board approves it, then it will be brought before our general membership to vote on.

At a joint meeting with Rotary, Harry Wiede in making an announcement about collecting deer hides, said he would also accept "Rotary Hides".

Henry Kyle in his invocation referred to visitors from Lockhart as from "our neighboring village."
H. Grady Harlan gave us what for when we didn't sing to suit him.

We got unaccustomed blisters and sore muscles from grubbing brush and cutting weeds at "Camp Tick".
We had our own professional humorist "in residence" (as they say in University circles) when Charles Jarvis was president.
While Dr. Nolle was delivering one of his polysyllable discourses, several members pulled out dictionaries which they had brought for the purpose.
