IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
As most of you know, McBride Wilson, an accomplished San Marcos Kiwanis member, passed away. His funeral is planned for Oct. 9, 2026, at 1:00 pm. The funeral will be held at the St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Marcos, Tx. While alive, McBride was very active in the community, and the Kiwanis Youth Camp is named in honor of his service and commitment to the upkeep and development of the camp.
The members of the San Marcos Kiwanis Club are encouraged to attend his funeral, wearing Kiwanis shirts or vests, if possible, as a way to show honor to his memory.
REPORTS:
No program was held today, but a lot of business was presented and discussed, pertaining to the future of the club! Great plans are in the works!
1. Future Thursday meeting location: Kristi Dame met with the San Marcos Public Library on Wednesday and come up with a plan that will benefit both the Kiwanis Club and the Public Library. Starting next Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, we will hold our meetings in the room directly past the library entrance.
a. Schedule: The club will meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, from 12:00pm-1:00pm, with the option of additional Thursday's if desired. These will be the days in which the club will conduct regular business followed by a program.
The club will plan to meet, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, at the McBride Wilson camp for "round table", service projects, general business, socials, etc. Currently, the plan is to meet from 12-1, but that might change.
Lunch can be brought from home or supplied by the club.
b. Newsletter and other communication: As we adjust to the new meeting locations, it will be imperative that you read through the weekly newsletter. Programs, updates, changes, etc. will assist, as we navigate our way through the meeting changes! Also, Kristi Dame is requesting that each member download an app titled, Group Me, onto your phones. In the past, the use of text messages has shown many advantages, and this app functions like text messages, without the repeated notification "pings". This app includes reminders and a calendar and holds a lot of promise in helping with club communication. If you have difficulty downloading the app, please reach out to Kristi or Rick Pickering, for assistance.
c. Benefits to new meeting locations: The Public Library is a great location to draw more community coverage to our Kiwanis Club, and the many things our club does for the community. We will be partnering with the library, in activities they put on, such as kid's programs and events, and book sales, and in return, we will have opportunities to receive free advertising, space to expand, and opportunities for increased membership. Sounds like a win-win opportunity to reach out to the community.
After much discussion: It was brought to our attention that the final change of meeting lo0cation needed to be voted on by the board of directors. The members in attendance consisted of the majority of the new board, plus the presence of non-board members. Therefore, Jennifer Richmond made a motion that the San Marcos Kiwanis Club move their weekly meetings to the San Marcos Public Library, with the option to meet and have programs on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month. This motion also included using the library on the other Thursday's if the need arises. Otherwise, the club will plan to meet at the McBride Wilson Camp on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, unless alternate pre-announced location is designated. Chase Dame seconded the motion. The motion was passe3d by majority vote of the board.
2. Upcoming Fundraiser: TRIVIA RUN:

The Kiwanis will be set up at a location that can be obtained by calling or texting Penny Slavik or Jennifer Richmond. By following this procedure, it will help anyone, in the community, that plan to purchase a passport, and travel the Trivia Run, to enjoy the entire experience without knowing our location until it is released, at the beginning of the event. We definitely would enjoy help from club members, at our location, though.
How our part in this adventure will work? We will great each participant when they arrive and hand them a sheet with trivia questions on it. They will have already purchased their passport, elsewhere. Once they answer their questions, we will grade it and write their score on their passport. While they are at our location, we will also visit with them about our club and our Disaster backpacks and encourage them to buy tickets for $10.00 each. The $10.00 will allow us to purchase supplies to go into our Disaster Backpacks. These tickets will be placed into our drawing container, to give them a chance at winning a Jeep backpack, filled with lots of prizes and gift cards. Simple!
