FUN FACTS ABOUT THE NUMBER 15

     1. ....15 is the number of the Magic Square.  According to legend, it originated around 2205 B.C. when the Emperor discovered the magic square on the back of a turtle.

     2......15 is the atomic number for phosphorous.

     3......A Crystal Anniversary celebrates 15 years.

     4.....May 15 is the International Day of Families.

     5.....February 15th is Susan B. Anthony Day celebrated in the U.S.  She worked all of her life for the rights of women.  She also worked for the Anti-Slavery Society.

     6.....Quincanera is a grand fancy dress celebration when a girl turns 15 years old.   Quincanera  actually means "one who is 15"  This is the day when the young girl officially enters womanhood.

     7.....James Buchanan was the 15th President of the United States.  He is the only President to date that was not married.  He was criticized for not doing anything to prevent the crisis between the North and South.  During his last month as President, seven Southern States left the Union.

     8.....The famous document of fundamental rights known as the "Magna Carta" was signed by the English King John on June 15, 1215.  This document was to secure certain rights of the people and specified that the Crown was not above the law.

     9.....Mata Hari was executed on October 15, 1917 in France.  She had been found guilty of espionage in favor of Germany during World War I.  It has been reported that this exotic Dutch dancer was neither bound nor blindfolded and remained calm when the firing squad shot her.

    10.....Abraham Lincoln died February 15, 1865.  He was the 16th President of the United States.  Lincoln was shot the day before in Ford's Theater, Washington, D.C.
