 KIWANIAN OF THE MONTH
Our new President, Moe Johnson initiated something that he had done during an earlier presidency, and that was to select one or more club members to e Kiwanian of the Month. Two members were given special T-Shirts with the Kiwanis Logo on it and underneath, the words, "Kiwanian of the Month" . He chose two to give these awards to, one was Randy Cook for doing an absolutly superb job 2 weeks ago in putting together the new budget for the year 2015-2016. Keeping the budget is a touch job, and Randy has handled the role of Treasurer for several years, and has been a master of it.
The second person named was Del Brown, past President of our club for the past year. It was a job well done and appreciated by all of the members.

BEVERLY CRUMLEY BRINGS THE PROGRAM THIS COMING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10TH.
Our program this coming Thursday, October 10th will be Judge Bert Cobb, Hays County Judge. Dr. Bert Cobb is a medical doctor, not a career politician. Dr. Cobb understands that challenging times call for strong and selfless leadership. As a veteran and later as a medical doctor and chief surgeon, Dr. Cobb has devoted his life to public service.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of major, Dr.. Cobb put himself through medical school. He served as chief of surgery in CTMC in San Marcos and operated three area medical clinics. Dr. Cobb learned how to solve problems and balance budgets in the real world.
Dr. Cobb is married to Gayle, his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years. Together they have two grown sons and three grandchildren.
The Cobbs reside between San Marcos and Wimberley, and their home water supply comes from a rainwater collection system they personally designed and installed. Be sure and come year Dr (Judge) Bert Cobb this Thursday. Bring a friend.

Yeah! Yeah! Randy Cook won the pot last Thursday. He donated it to the Eliminate Project. Remember, to win, you not only have to have your name drawn, but you also must be wearing your Kiwanis pin. Your name badge does not count.

2015-2016 International President
"Kids need Kiwanis. Without Kiwanis, kids in New York wouldn't have art supplies at summer camp, kids in California wouldn't have bike helmets; kids in Missouri wouldn't have a safe playground. Without Kiwanis, children with Down Syndrome in Malaysia would have no place to learn life skills; children in Madagascar would be in the landfill fighting animals for food. Without Kiwanis, millions of babies would not survive the ravages of tetanus. Plain and simple, kids need Kiwanis - now more than ever.
I joined Key Club in 1977 to make a difference in my community. I saw that my efforts had a bigger impact when joined with those of others. That desire to continue improving lives and communities led to a lifetime as a member of the Kiwanis family. Today, I am honored and humbled to begin my term as Kiwanis International president. This is a historic moment, not only because Kiwanis is the first of any of the major service organization to elect a female president at the International level, but most importantly, this is the start of our second century of serving the children of the world.
As we start this new Kiwanis year, I ask you to pause and remember why you first joined this remarkable organization. I joined to make a difference in my community. I get that's why you joined too. Continue to make that difference. Re-energize those around you. Be the spark that helps children live better lives. Show the world what you are doing to help children....I can't wait I can't wait to see what your're doing to make the world a better place for children. Together, we will change the world.  OVER THE TOP!
In case you haven't heard the news, our club has fulfilled it's financial goal to be a Model Club. Through the many individual contributions as well as your turning back Big Bucks and Happy Dollars, all of which were sent on to help defray our club's pledge within the Eliminate Project. We have exceeded that goal and we will soon be getting a patch to put on our banner. For those of you that went the extra mile in your giving, thank you! Let's keep up the good work. The Eliminate Project still needs our help to fulfill it's goal, and they are close to accomplishing that goal. That's what Kiwanis is all about, not just about our kids and our community, but also the larger community, the world. We must, and we will eliminate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus from the earth. Let's continue to help Kiwanis and UNICEF in this monumental problem.

 VETERAN'S DAY T-SHIRTS....THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10 IS THE DEADLINE
This is the season in our club where the entire club membership is needed to be involved in two very important events....(1) October Dash Race which is coming up on October 24. It's a Saturday and we are in need of as many club members that can come and help set up, and tear down. There's another article dealing specifically with this race elsewhere in this week's bulletin. The second big event is the Veteran's Day Parade, November 7. Again, there is a lot of work to do to put the float together out at our warehouse on Stapler Road, helping decorate kids bikes. To all Kiwanis club members, these two events cannot succeed if just a few pitch in. We need all of you to pitch in. We are ordering new T-Shirts for the Parade. We have 20 members signed up and given their size. The logo is the same as last year (see picture), but the camouflage will be lighter, more like our service personnel are wearing in Afghanistan and Iraq. The following have signed up: Brown, Rydl, Balkman,Banks,Polk,Cook, (both Randy & Pam), Moe Johnson, Nelson, Mendez, Strunk, Hahn, Whigham (Both Kelli & Steve),Crumley,Chas. Johnson, Shell, Wilson, Burleson, Grizzle. Those we have not heard from are: Prather, Collier, Roppolo, Brannon, Breihan, Furney, Herman, Martin, White. October 2, 1975..........Japanese Emperor Hirohito made his first-ever visit to the White House.
October 3, 1929.........Yugoslavia became the official name of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
October 4, 1957........The Space Age began as the Russians launched the first satellite into orbit. Sputnik weighed just 184 lbs. and transmitted a beeping radio signal for 21 days. The remarkable accomplishment by Soviet Russia sent a shockwave through the American political leadership resulting in U.S. efforts to be the first on the moon.
October 5, 1964..........The largest mass escape since the construction of the Berlin Wall occurred as 57 East German refugees escaped to West Berlin after tunneling beneath the wall.
October 6, 1949..........."Tokyo Rose" (Iva Toguri d'Aquino) was sentenced in San Francisco to 10 years imprisonment and fined $10,000 for treason.
