"Wrong Picture, Right Person"
Even though your bulletin editor couldn't find the cord for the camera he used last Thursday, this is still a picture of Gary Nelson who gave a very enlightening overall discussion on our Ramp Project, of which he is very much involved. The first thing that he said startled everyone when he stated that as of last week, they had 28 ramps that are waiting to be made. More and more need from handicapped persons and creating the need for more & more people to get involved in building ramps. Building ramps for someone who desperately needs it because of incapacity to get into their home without a ramp seems to be increasing. The need to build these ramps is very important, and help is needed, especially with younger individuals. Gary also indicated that from the time that our club got involved with ramp building, there has been some significant changes required by ADA, from the way that ramps have been built in the past, so this has been, at least in the beginning, a reason for slowing down the building, but building will continue, just need a bit more help. Thanks Gary.

What about the History of the New York State Flag?
New York's official flag was adopted in 1901. The flag has a deep blue background. It pictures Liberty (she symbolizes freedom) and Justice (she symbolizes justice before the law). Liberty is holding a pole with a liberty cap, and has a discarded crown at her feet (which represents freedom from Britain after the Revolutionary War). Justice is blindfolded and is holding the scales of justice. A shield between them pictures, the sun, hills, and 2 boats sailing on the Hudson River. Over the shield there is a dove and a bald eagle. Under them all is a white, flowing ribbon that reads "EXCELSIOR"

November 16, 1918 - - Hungary was proclaimed an independent republic following the break up of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
November 17, 1588 - - Queen Elizabeth I ascended the throne of England at the age of 25, reigning until 1603 when she was 69. Under her leadership, England became a world power, defeating the Spanish Armada, and witnessed a golden age of literature featuring works by William Shakespeare, Edmond Spenser and others.
November 18, 1916 - - During World War I, Allied General Douglas Haig called off the First Battle of the Somme after five months. The Allies had advanced 125 square miles at a cost of 420,000 British and 195,000 French soldiers. German losses were over 650,000 men.
November 19, 1863 - - President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address during ceremonies dedicating 17 acres of the Gettysburg Battlefield as a National Cemetery. Famed orator Edward Everett of Massachusetts preceded Lincoln and spoke for two hours. Lincoln then delivered his address in less than two minutes. Although many in attendance were at first unimpressed, Lincoln's words have come to symbolize the definition of democracy itself.
November 20, 1917 - - The first use of tanks in battle occurred at Cambrai, France, during World War I. Over 300 tanks, commanded, commanded by British General Sir Douglas Haig went into battle against the Germans.
November 21, 1992 - - The Anglican Church of Australia voted to allow women to become priests. The largest of the dioceses voted against the bill, however, it still received the required two-thirds approval.
November 22, 1497 - - Portuguese navigator Vasco Da Gama, leading a fleet of four ships, became the first to sail round the Cape of Good Hope, while searching for a sea route to India.
