'That's probably it,' replied the dentist...'Holandaise sauce is made with lemon juice, which is acidic and highly corrosive. It seems as though I'll have to install a new plate,
but made out of chrome this time.''Why chrome?' the man asked.
'Wellll, everyone knows that there's no plate like chrome for the Hollandaise!'"

What a wonderful turnout we had last Thursday for our Christmas Lunch
Interclub. We had a total of 26 from
our club + 4 from Luling+ 2 from Seguin+ Emmy LaFere (Visitor); + Cindy Holder, (Visitor ) + Jody Bagley Leifeste who provided Beautiful Christmas music on a Doug Balkman's keyboard and led us all in carol singing as well as singing some beautiful carols herself. It was a delightful time at San Marcos BBQ. The food was excellent from the Brisket, Turkey, Sausage or Chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, onions, pickles right down to some delicious Banana Pudding. Thanks to the owner Justin Pearson and his crew who made us feel right at home. Jody certainly kept us in the right Christmas spirit with her enthusiasm and wonderful singing.  It was with great pride and honor that our club warded McBride Wilson, a Certificate of Excellence for his many years in maintaining our Camp Kiwah. McBride has been the prime mover in seeing that our camp has been kept mowed, cleaned, the facilities neat and clean. He has been the prime mover in getting other members of the club eager to help keep the camp that way. This award, in the form of a beautiful plaque, was presented to McBride at our Christmas Lunch Interclub, as a token of deep appreciation for all that he has done not only for the camp but also for our club. As a part of the award went also a renaming of the camp in McBride's honor. This was approved unanimously by our Board of Directors, and was proposed to the board by Lon Shell. From henceforth, the camp will be officially called, "The McBride Wilson Kiwanis Youth Camp." A new sign will soon be made to reflect it's new name. |

At our Christmas Lunch, Nancy Strunk (wife of Gary) raised a concern needing our prayers. She has a very close friend that for years has been living with a defective heart. She had just about given up hope of ever receiving a transplant, but just recently, she was admitted to Mayo clinic so that she could be watched. A miracle occured just the other day, when she was informed that a heart had been found and she was going to receive it. Her name is Jamie Wigley. Let us keep Jamie and Nancy in our prayers and pray that this transplant is a good one. Thank you Nancy for bringing it to our attention. Thanks to all of you who came out to distribute donated 'goodies' to over 70 Terrific Kids at DeZavala last Friday. As you can see by the picture, we had a bunch of kids and all with smiles on their faces as 8 of our club members dropped different items in their sack and congratulated them for being "Terrific Kids". Isn't this what our club is all about...kids...kids, Terrific kids! Those of our club that came out were Randy Cook, Pam Cook, Del Brown, McBride Wilson, Francis Mendez, Doug Balkman, Garry White, and Gary Nelson. K-Kids Information. Let's have a great turnout on Thursday, December
18 when Randy & Pam will bring the K-Kids as our program. Along with them will be several K-Kids, along with Kayla Cook, the faculty Advisor, and the School principal, Mr. Tim Maresch. Also there may be two other advisors as well. The K-Kids program is a very important one from De-Zavala school, and we need to get more involved with them. There are plenty of good service projects out there, but we as Kiwanians should take more of an interest in what they are doing. We need to attend some of their meetings , which are being planned for the first & third Wenesday morning from 7:30-8:00 am. We should try and make some of those meetings.

It's not too early to begin thinking about a couple of events coming up next year....
one is the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis, on February 23 & 24, and Pancake Day on February 26th. Begin thinking about the folks you went to for silent auction items. We will be getting more information out on it as far as work schedules etc. Remember, this event is for all club members to participate in. Even if you have not been able to come to the weekly meetings as often as you would like...put February 26th on your calendar. We will need everyone's help. Just a few cannot put it on. Those that come and eat our pancakes deserve the best that we can offer. This is a major fundraiser, always has been ever since our beginning, and right now continues to be one of our major means to help our club. So please....please....plan to help us out this year. There is always things you can do and need to be done. I know we will all come through in support of our club and in support of our kids and our community.(Article 47.....C)

Some more past Trivia from our club....In 1944, our club purchased a 7 acre camp on the Blanco river to provide a camping spot for Boy Scouts and Girl outs....$400...Later a group of members spent many hours clearing the site, building shelters and providing toilet facilities. The club as maintained the camp and paid the utilities yearly since...(Now we know the rest of the story!).
....Paid expenses to Explorer's entrants in canoe race......Furnished breakfast for Scout leaders.....Sponsored a national Kids day annually. This usually consisted of a pet parade, sometimes has included free trips, free movies, freee refreshments, with expenditures up to $150. Here are some activities in other fields....in recreation....gave $300 for helping to build and equip the City Recreation Building....gave $20 for trees for the park....Construjcted portable backstops to make possible use of neighborhood playgrounds for ball games....from the early days when the library was a corner of a grocery store, to the building of the present structure, the club and its members have given time and money to the support of the Library (and it is to this day)....Gave to flood relief in 1955....Furnished a room in Memorial hospital, approximately $500....supplied a microscope ($529) and a refrigerator ($200) to Memorial Hospital. It's hard to imagine that Christmas is just around the corner. It is hoped that all of you will be surrounded by the joys and blessings that comes with this holiday. Remember, we do not have a program on the 25th (naturally), but there will be a bulletin sent out that week. Grin's will be closed for two weeks because they are redoing their floors. They will open again for business on January 8th. We are scheduled to have a Roundtable on January 1st, and am open for suggestions as to where to go. We'll talk about it this week at our noon meeting.
