  Contribution to Boy Scouts of America
We received a very nice letter of appreciation from the Capital Area of Boy Scouts, thanking us for the contribution given from our club, Boy Scouts of America is moving through it's 105th year of service to ouir nation. They have provided these significant facts for our knowledge:
........367 outstanding Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the year 2014.
.......Eagles, non-Eagles and Scout units combined to provide more than 114,000 hours of community service at schools, public parks and lands, and houses of worship.
.....Scouts and volunteers have served on the front lines of the battle to rebuild the native habitat of Bastrop County's pine forest, devastated by wildfires, to date our Scouts have planted roughly a half million seedlings at our Griffit League Scout Ranch.
......Two of our Eagle Scouts were the only two youth to receive the state's top conservation honor, the Texas Environmental Excellence Award, completing projects benefitting the Georgetown Salamander and Texas Ash tree.
......Ground was broken for the new Applied Technology Center at Austin Independent School District's Anderson High
School campus. Thanks to an individual generous gift, this campus will be the site for our new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) day camp debuting in summer 2015.

Thank you for your letter of April 17. After careful consideration I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me employment with your firm.
This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of candidates it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.
Despite Acme Inc.'s outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet with my needs at this time.
Therefore, I will initiate employment with your firm immediately following graduation. I look forward to seeing you then.

 A great Roundtable was held last Thursday, May 14 at Grin's. It was Graduation Day at the University, so we shared our meeting rooms with parents, and graduates. Very nice. A picture would have been used showing our crowd, but the cameraman must have moved, because it came out fuzzy. Anyway, we had 11 present: Chester Banks, Del Brown, Randy Cook, Rob Martin, Gary Nelson, Lon Shell, Sam Brannon, John Polk, Glen Rydl, , Gary Strunk, and McBride Wilson. |

MCBRIDE WILSON KIWANIS YOUTH CAMP CLEAN UP DAY CHANGE! Our camp Coordinator, Gary Strunk announced at our Roundtable last Thursday noon that because of the rainy weather, the clean up day out at our camp will be changed to this coming FRIDAY, MAY 29TH AT 8AM. We need a bunch with mowers, weedeaters, and any other equipment you might have. Remember our newly owned tractor will be in full swing. Don't know who the driver is going to be, but I think we can guess. Let's have a great turnout. IMPORTANT!....Another reason for wanting it clean, is there is going to be a special Eagle Scout award given to Robbie Woodworth, He will receive this award on Saturday, June 6th. Robbie earned his Eagle Scout award for the work he did at the camp in building a new pump house, which was badly needed. Plan to attend that ceremony.

  WE NEED YOUR PRESENCE AT TERRIFIC KIDS...2PM...FRIDAY, MAY 22, DEZAVALA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
We need at least ten club members to help out with distributing donated items to our Terrific Kids at DeZavala Elementary School on Friday. We need to be there prior to 2pm. It will be held in the cafeteria. We need to come early enough to sign in at the main office. You who have helped in the past know how much the kids get out of this. They are thrilled to have been selected to be Teriffic Kids.

  SCHOLARSHIPS RECIPIENTS TO BE OUR GUESTS THIS THURSDAY, MAY 21ST
(L-R) Ariel Koska, Lena Sauer, Emily Holmes, Jeffrey Ault & Jacob McGee . These five outstanding seniors from San Marcos High Schoo, were eacjh awarded a $1000 scholarship from our club on Wednesday, May 6th. We are very proud of them and have invited them to our club meeting , Thursday, May 21st. They will each make a five minute presentation and talk about their goals and accomplishments and something about where they will be going following graduation from SMHS. Lets have a good turnout and welcome them.

 SOPHOMORE OF THE YEAR AWARD
Last November, 2014, our club handed out ten applications for Sophomore of the Year, 2014-2015. We had ten applications, and our Lt. Governor of Division 38, submitted one name from our Division to represent our Division in the Texas/Oklahoma District competition. Then out of all the applicants from the other Division, our nominee was selected to receive one of the scholarships upon graduation. Our nominee that went forward and was selected as one of the winners was Sophomore, KORBIN WEESE. He has been notified of this, and will be awarded a plaque from our District on this Thursday, May 21st at our regular noon meeting This is quite an honor and Korbin is to be congratulated for being selected. His scholarship will be available upon graduation.

 "HANDICAP RAMP BUILT FOR CRIPPLED SAN MARCOS LOCAL PAST
OR"
On Saturday morning at 7am, volunteers met at the Kiwanis Warehouse and picked up modules for a very extensive hanidicap ramp for use by a local pastor, David Aguillon, pastor of "La Nuevo Jerusalem" at 211 Knox
Street here in San Marcos. Well over 20 volunteers from the CTMC Ramp building team, Gary Nelson and Gary Strunk from our Kiwanis Club, as well as local church members came out to assist.
Pastor David and his wife, Maria Angelica Acevedo were in a serious automobile accident on May 8, 2015, in which David's wife was killed. They also have four children. Pastor David was very seriously crippled, which is why this ramp was needed immediately. Bob Gardner from CTMC, and in charge of the ramp building project after the San Marcos Kiwanis club relinquished it, pleaded for help in building the ramp. You never saw a ramp go up so fast. All those who turned out knew just what to do, and it was a difficult ramp with several turns leading from the church's parsonage to the back of the church. A lot of thanks goes out for every one who had a hand and drill, and hammer and saw to make this devastated pastor and his motherless children a little more comfortable.

  FLAG RENEWALS......IMPORTANT!!
Don't forget about going by the businesses that you contracted for flags and remind them about either giving or sending in their renewal for 2015 flag displays. They are slow in coming in. Remember that our first flag display of the year is Monday morning, May 25...Memorial Day. If you haven't put Kiwanis banners on your flags, the box of banners and ties are down at Ted's. Remember, let's all meet at Ted's place at 7am. And thanks for all of you who are flag displayers. There are new flags this year, so check the route and see who is putting up new flags.

 HISTORICAL EVENTS THAT HAPPENED THE WEEK OF15 - 21, 2015
May 15, 1972.........George Wallace was shot while campaigning for the presidency in Laurel, Maryland. As a result, Wallace was permanently paralyzed from the waist down.
May 16, 1862..........During the American Civil War, Union General Benjamin Butler, military governor of New Orleans, issued his "Woman Order" declaring that any Southern woman showing disrespect for Union soldiers or the U.S. would be regarded as a woman of the town, or prostitute. This and other controversial acts by Butler set the stage for his dismissal as military governor in December 1862.
May 17, 1792..........Two dozen merchants and brokers established the New York Stock Exchange. In good weather they operated under a buttonwood tree on Wall Street. In bad weather they moved insiede to a coffeehouse to conduct business.
May 18, 18, 1980.......Mount St. Helens volcano erupted in southwestern Washington State, spewing steam and ash over 11 miles into the sky. This was the first major eruption since 1857.
May 19, 1943........During World War II in Europe, Royal Air Force bombers sucessfully attacked dams in the German Ruhr Valley using innovative ball-shaped bouncing bombs that skipped along the water and exploded against the dams. The dams had provided drinking water for 4 million persons and supplied 75% of the electrical power for industry in the area.
May 20, 1927........Charles Lindburgh, a 25 year old aviator, took off at 7:52 a.m. from Roosevelt Field, Long Island, in the Spirit of St. Louis attempting to win a $25.000 prize for the first solo nonstop flight between New York City and Paris. Thirty-three hours later, after a 3,600 mile journey, he landed at Le Bourget, Paris, earning the nickname "Lucky Lindy" and becoming an instant worldwide hero.
May 21, 1881............The American Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton. The organization today provides volunteer disaster relief in tnhe U.S. and abroad. Community services include collecting and distributing donated blood, and teaching health and safety classes.
