We had 4 Kiwanians from our club attend a Key Club on February 12: Randy Cook, Rob Martin, Del Brown & Dan Langen. Here are the new officers with us as well as their sponsor, Carrie Coburn. Randy presented the club with a support check of $1,000, which is to help some of their club members go to the TX/OK Key Club Convention .

  TX/OK GOVERNOR VISITS THE HILL COUNTRY REGION
On Saturday, February 13, Rob Martin (our Regional Lt Governor for Division 38, 23 & 24), along with Frederick Case, Randy Cook and Del Brown went up to Roundrock FUMC to welcome our new District Governor, Erby Eikner and his wife, Francine. to the Hill Country Region. The Governor -elect John Sheridan was also there, as well as the CKI District Governor,
Jennifer Tuggle. Frederick gave a very thorough rundown on the work of District Foundation matters as well as did some updates as far as the Formula is concerned. Francine Eikner informed us that we are only 5 million away from fulfilling our commitment goal of 110 million to eliminate MNT, therefore since we are so close, the date for completion has been extended to 2020. Our club has fulfilled it's commitment and have received our Model Club Patch. Rob Martin, as Regional Trustee led the meeting including the nomination and election of Rob's successor as Regional Trustee. Rob will have served for one year, and his replacement will serve for three years. There will be more information at our club meeting.

While some of us were up at Round Rock attending a Zone meeting, heres what Marcie Burleson , Doug Balkman, Gary Strunk, Lon Shell, Andrew Gary, McBride Wilson, Moe Johnson, and Kyle Burleson were doing....building Garden Boxes for the playground at Bonham School. This is Kiwanis at its finest. Thanks Lon for honchoing this great undertaking. Tell us all about this next club meeting.

  This article should have been put in one of our earlier bulletins, but better late than never. Glen Rydl attended the Hays County Youth Livestock Show Auction (HCYLSA) on January 30th, 2016 at Dripping Springs. Prior to the start of the auction, Glen had the honor of presenting the "Dr. Glen M & Marilou Rydl" Scholarship to Madison Hawkins, Queen of the 2016 Hays County Youth Livestock Show. The San Marcos Kiwanis Club has $600.00 in the budget for the HCYLSA. During the auction, Glen added on $100.00 to Dana Wallace, Senior Foods Grand Champion from Hays FFA: $200.00 to Courtney Ward, (Bill Nicolas' grand daughter, Senior Foods Reserve Champion from Dripping Springs 4H; $100.00 to Brady Green, Turkey Hen from Dripping Springs 4-H; and $200.00 to Madison Hawkins, Market Lamb from Buda 4-H. Note: The Grand Champion Steer sold for a mere $10,000.00. Glen also indicated that the history of the Glen & Marilou Rydl Scholarship was started was when Glen was president of the Hays County Livestock Exposition in 1977-78, when he started the Queen's Contest and has been associated with it since that time. Hence the Scholarship was set up in honor of Glen & Marilou. |

OUR PROGRAM FROM LAST THURSDAY
It was a real treat to have Anthony Stahl, the new CEO of CTMC bring our program last Thursday. He truly seems to be a visionary in his thinking about the future of medical care. He says that there is going to be an increased emphasis on preventative medical health care. Since CTMC operates on an Adventist Health System, which maintains a tradition of whole-person health by caring for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of every patient. With 44 hospital campuses and nearly 8,200 licensed beds in 10 states, Adventist Health System facilities incorporate the latest technological advancements and clinical research to serve more that 4.7 million patients annually.
" Each Adventist Health System facility operates independently in delivering care and services to best meet the needs of the local communities they serve. Steve Furney will be bringing a very enjoyable program this coming Thursday. He is bringing Dr. Kent Griffin, Exercise & Sports Science Assistant Professor. He is going to be speaking about The National Interscholastic Cycling Association which develops interscholastic mountain biking programs for student-athletes across the United States. NICA provides leadership, services and governance for local leagues to produce quality mountain bike events, and supports every student-athlete in the development of strong body, strong mind and strong character through their efforts on the bike. Their vision in the NICA is to develop interscholastic mountain biking coast-to-coast by 2020. This promises to be a very thought provoking program since several of our club members are bikers. Let's have a great turnout.

HISTORICAL FACTS FROM FEBRUARY 12th TO FEBRUARY 18TH
February 12, 1999.........The impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton in the U.S. Senate ended. With the whole world watching via television, Senators stood up one by one during the final roll call to vote 'guilty' or 'not guilty'. On Article I charging Clinton with perjury) 55 senators, including 10 Republicans and all 45 Democrats voted not guilty. On Article 2(charging Clinton with obstruction of justice) the Senate split evenly, 50 for and 50 against the President. With the necessary two-thirds majority not having been achieved, President Clinton was thus acquitted on both charges and served out the remainder of his term of office lasting through January 20, 2001.
February 13, 1635.........Boston Latin School, the first tax payer supported (public) school in America was established in Boston Massachusetts.
February 14, 1849.......Photographer Matthew Brady took the first photograph of a U.S. President in office, James Polk.

February 17, 1865.........During the American Civil War, Fort Sumter in South Carolina was returned to the Union after nearly a year and a half under Confederate control. The fort had been the scene of the first shots of the war.
February 18, 1892..........American politician Wendell Willkie was born in Elwood, Illinois. He was the Republican nominee for president in 1940, running against Franklin D. Roosevelt.
