Gary Strunk, a former member of the club, joined us today. Good to see him.

REPORTS:
Rick reported that 24 flag mounts were installed at La Cima. They are ready for the next flag holiday. The Flag Program has brought in almost $7000. This will greatly help with our donations to the community.

La Cima has already donated $1000 towards being a sponsor for the Pumpkin Dash in the Fall.

The Officers' election will be done at the July 3rd. meeting. Please be present, if at all possible, to ensure a quorum.

The Installation Banquet has been set for Sept. 19th.

We will be revisiting our committee list and doing some revamping in preparation for the coming new year.

The San Marcos Public Library has a Craft Day event scheduled for June 30th. They could use some volunteers. "Spinning Top Craft" will be from 2:00 - 3:00. Call 512-393-8200 if you would like to help. July 17th is "Birds' Nest Craft" at 10:00 a.m. and July 28th is "STEM Tower Craft" also starting at 10:00 a.m.

Penny is having an Estate sale of her father Del Brown's estate starting at 8:00 a.m. this Saturday. The address is 210 Whitetail Dr. I checked on Facebook and it looks like it will also be on Sunday starting at 12:00.

Saltgrass in San Marcos is having a fundraiser for organizations of which ours is one. The Kiwanis Club is set for Monday, June 30th. A good number of our members are meeting there at 6:00 p.m. If you want to be included and have not already told Rick, please let him know in time to get our reservation in with an accurate head count. If you want to go separately, you can go as early as 5:00 p.m. Be sure to say you are with Kiwanis so we can get the 10% donation. This is a win/win. Great food and raising money for the club simply by eating.

PROGRAM: Rick introduced our speaker Taylor Simmons who, along with his wife Erica, owns and operates Southern Star Farms which is also a part of Southern Star Event Center. Members who went to the Cornhole Tournament would have seen the farm. Taylor's presentation was focused on the "Community Supported Agriculture" aspect which connects consumers with local farms and farm to table fresh, organic produce, grass fed beef, eggs, raw milk products and homemade jarred goods. He mentioned that most of the produce we buy from the stores has an average of a 1500 mile journey to get there. That means it is not really all that fresh by the time we get it home.
Taylor encourages home gardening and says it is a lifestyle. For those who are unable to do this, South Star Farms has several ways consumers can buy their products. Order online and pick up at a convenient location for you. Kissing Tree Farmer's Market is great for anyone living in San Marcos. Other pick up locations are Mueller Farmers Market in Austin, Bell Farmers Market in Cedar Park, New Braunfels Market and at The South Star Farms in Maxwell. Having a commercial kitchen on their property allows them to also pickle and jar various produce.  Check out their website for ordering and mention it to anyone who lives near their pickup areas.

Be sure to check the Calendar posted on the San Marcos Kiwanis Club website to stay up-to-date on what is happening.

Humor and Musings:
Rick came up with a joke when introducing Taylor Simmons.
"If you have 10 oranges in one hand and 6 apples in the other, what do you have?
Large hands."

Why did the tomato turn red?
Because it saw the salad dressing.

Why did the lettuce win the race?
Because it was a-head.
