 WE HAD A WINNER LAST WEEK,!!!!!
Would you believe that for two weeks in a row, our winning name was none other than our Treasurer, Randy Cook, who was not present. His name was drawn by none other than our San Marcos Chief of Police who was our program for last week. Well Randy, the two dollars went back in the jar, and we only had $2,00 in Happy Dollars which will go toward the Eliminate Project.

 OUR ATTENDANCE WAS DOWN, BUT OUR PROGRAM LAST WEEK WAS AN EXCELLENT ONE.
To have two programs in the last two weeks dealing with our excellent San Marcos Police Department was indeed a treat. This last week, our new Police Chief, Chase Stapp gave a marvelous presentation to a small attendance, but it was an enthusiastic crowd to say the least. There were many gone to the District Convention, and others elsewhere on vacation etc. Chief Stapp gave quite a rundown on the structure of the Police Department, and the newly elected officers that were promoted when Chief Stapp was promoted. It is my personal opinion that we have the best police department in south Texas, but then I'm prejudiced. Thanks Chief, for filling us in on your busy schedule. He also 'plugged' the importance of the Citizen's Police Academy, the next class is coming up on August 17. Those who have taken it, feel like it gives a whole new perspective on the work of our police force. Last week's E-bulletin gives more details about the upcoming CPA class. Thanks to McBride Wilson for bringing the Chief to speak to our club.

  .JPG)  OUR UPCOMING PROGRAM, THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 2015These four individuals from our club went to the TX/OK District Convention in Texarkana, TX last weekend. Some very significant things were voted on and passed, such as the reorganization amendment of our District. Rob Martin, our current Lt Governor, Frederick Case, former club president and District representative, John Polk, our new upcoming Lt. Governor, and Moe Johnson,,our President Elect for 2015-2016 all will have much to share with our club this coming Thursday. We can be very proud of our club for it's involvement in Kiwanis activities, and especially now that the amendment to restructure our District was passed by a very large margin at the convention. Let's not miss this Thursday. Hear how our club will be involved in this new structure.

 ELIMINATE UPDATE AS OF JULY, 2015
As of July 2015, the TX/OK District ranks #1 in International Kiwanis in meeting their goal of $110 million. Our Districtt has raised $2,487,458, which comes to an average of $249.42 per member in our District. Our District has 66 Model &100K Clubs. Together with the Canadian math, the overall Eliminate project total has reached $91.2 million in cash and pledges. Good going!

  VALIDATION STATUS OF 'ELIMINATE PROJECT'
Globally 36 out of 59 priority countries have been officially validated for MNT elimination. Currently, 23 countries are still at risk for MNT. In addition 16 regions out of 17 (except Autonormous Region in Muslim Mindanao) in the Phillipines have been validated..
.....Cambodia underwent a validation survey in June. The country is awaiting the official results.
.....Equatorial Guinea is scheduled for a MNTE validation survey this year,
......Niger is scheduled for a pre-validation assessment in September.
.....Angola is preparing data for review and readiness for a possible pre-validation assessment this year.
TETANUS TOXOID SUPPLEMENTAL IMMUNIZATION ACTIVITIES (TT SIAs) UPDATE
CHAD will conduct the first round of Phase-2 of TT SIAS in May, reaching approximately 1.6 million women of reproductive age in 42 districts.
SOUITH SUDAN finished the third round of Phase-3 states (Lakes region) in June.
SUDAN conducted the first round of TT campaigns aiming to reach one million women in five districts in (Phase 1) in May and finished the second round in June.
The following countries have planned TT SIAs
CHAD will conduct the second round of Ohase-2 of TT SIAs this month, aiming to reach approximately 1.6 million women in 42 districts.
ETHIOPIA have scheduled the third found of TT SIAs in July/August in the two remaining zones of the Somali region.
GUINEA will continue to conduct additional, targeted activities this year.
HAITI will conduct its final rouind of TT SIAs in the Sud-East department in September
KENYA plans to conduct the final round in 21 districts this year.
MALI plans to conduct its third round of TT SIAs this year.
NIGERIA is planning the second round of TT campaigns aiming to reach 2.3 million women this month.
PAKISTAN plans to initiate tetanus immunizaations in Gilgit Baltistan province this year.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA plans to conduct targeted campaigns in 15 provinces this year.
PHILLIPINES has completed a risk categorization exercises for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and is finalizing plans to reach women still at risk.
SOUTH SUDAN is conducting its second round of Phase-3 states (Northern Bahr el Ghazai) through the month of August.

 HISTORICAL EVENTS THAT HAPPENED DURING THE WEEK OF AUGUST 7TH TO AUGUST 13.
August 7, 1964............Following an attack on two U.S. destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin off of North Vietnam, the U.S. Congress approved the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, granting President Lyndon B. Johnson authority 'to take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression.'
August 8, 1945.........Soviet Russia declared war on Japan and sent troops into Japanese-held Manchuria.
August 9, 1945.........The second Atomic bombing of Japan occurred as an American B-29 headed for the city of Kokura, but because of poor visibility then chose a secondary target, Nagsaki. About noon, the bomb detonated killing an estimated 70,000 persons and destroying about half the city.
August 10, 1831,,,,,,,,,,,,The term "Old glory", referring to the U.S. Flag, was first used by William Driver of Salem, Massachusett. Who was the captain of the ship, "Charles Daggett". When presented with an American flag, Driver raised it to the mast and said, "I name thee Old Glory".
August 11, 1841...........Frederick Douglas, an escaped slave, spoke before an audience in the North for the first time. During an anti-slavery convention on Nantucket Island, he gave a powerful, emotional account of his life as a slave. He was immediately asked to become a full-time lecturer for the Massachusetts Antislavery Society.
August 12, 1676............King Philip's War ended with the assassination of Metacom, leader of the Pokanokets, a tribe within the Indiana Federation. Nicknamed 'King Philip' by colonists, he led a Native American uprising against white settlers which resulted in a war that raged for nearly two years, now known as King Philip's War.
August 13, 1961.............The Berlin Wall came into existence after the East German government closed the border between east and west sectors of Berlin with barbed wire to discourage emigration to the West. The barbed wire was replaced by a 12 foot-high concrete wall eventually extending 103 miles around the perimeter of West Berlin. The wall included electrified fences, fortifications, and guard posts. It became a notorious symbol of the Cold War. Presidents Kennedy and Reagan made notable appearances at the wall accompanied by speeches denouncing Communisn. The wall was finally opened by an East German governmental decredd in November 1989 and torn down by the end of 1990.
